Would anyone recognize this vise? The only marking I can find is "BLOOM T.H.S."
The jaws "kind of" look like early Craftsman, but a lot of vises look like that also. I've Googled "Bloom" and T.H.S. extensively with zero results. Disregard the base. It is just a homemade base made from a pipe flange.

It does look like 40's Craftsman.
That flat base is shown in one of the catalogs of the era too. Only for a little while, I think.

here are pictures of my Wilton Flip-Grip vise after cleanup and paint with hammered black. The before picture includes a couple of no name clamp-ons.

Alright, I don't own this one yet but if the auction goes well I might. Anyone care to wager a guess on the model and price? There are some Copper jaw liners with it too.

I don't know, but I should find out on Saturday. A friend of mine took the pictures for me, but didn't get me any other good info other than "Its heavy!".

Well it ended up being an estate sale that my buddy knows a guy who knows a guy and got in before it was open to the public. I picked it up, its a 450s and it came with a set of Wilton copper jaws for a 6". The jaws are rough and its been welded in a few times. Picked it up in a lot of stuff for ~$80ish. Figure I went over the $1/lb rule but its a great candidate for a resto. Better pics to follow

That is a beauty!! Its post WWII, and could be into the later 60's before KenTool bought them. Columbians had the "T" style jaws from the beginning of time. Those repleceable ones with the older Columbian Insigna is definitely pre-Wilton, post war.

Thanks for the info Autopts. Does the straight logo date from when Wilton acquired them?

Todays flea market find

It was just too cute to pass up. No markings whatsoever. It just might live out the rest of its life as my bottle opener holder. $5 pretty well spent.

I just picked this one up a few days ago for $30.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dseybert/5546036552/" title="Record 3VS by dseybert, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5260/5546036552_f661a98733.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Record 3VS" /></a>

It didn't really need a full restoration, but as I started cleaning it up I got carried away. It's now stripped and ready for new paint.

That's one amazing find on CL.
With luck like that maybe you should play the lottery ;)

It took me a while to find it. I missed out on a really nice Athol a week ago and it came down to this and a Wilton, but the guy was (arguably) asking too much for the Wilton.

I bought an Athol for $50 last week I found on Craigslist. The guy was in Ocean Beach. Was that the one you were looking at?

I think your right on that straight plain logo being Wilton. There is a great Columbian vise thread somewhere on GJ that we colaborated that gives a very nice timeline to the Columbian Vise Co. and how they evolved until the Wilton takeover.

I found this thread on another forum and I'm impressed. This is quite a collection of heavy duty vises. I can't compete in that department, but after looking at 92 pages of photos, I see that I have a vise or two that haven't been posted.

This is a vise off of a Green Instrument Co. model 106 engraver (so I've been informed).

An old Columbian woodworking vise that I haven't mounted yet.

And a Starrett 119 bench block base for my Panavise.

I also have numerous other precision grinding vises and several Palmgrens, along with a dozen other types. I have serious tool issues.

Harvey , welcome to the GJ. Some cool stuff there ,really like that Starrett vise and benchblock setup.

You think you've got tool issues now, wait til you've hung out here awhile.

It gets worse.

Much worse.

I joined and 3 weeks later I was cleaning up a Wilton 450 vise........2 weeks later it was a Chicago Morgan 140 vise in the electrolysis bath......and now there is a Charles Parker in transit from Michigan. The delivery folks are really starting to hate me I think.

So I picked up this little Torco, not in perfect shape, but it works. Do any of you VISE guys know what the two bolts sticking out of the dynamic jaw are for? holding in the main screw? I have tried to loosen / tighten them, but they will just spin. I have looked at some of the old adverts some one posted, and they are not shown. I think it was some one's attempt a fix, along with a bad paint job.

Picked up this cool litle Parker vise the other day. 3 1/2 in wide jaws and 9 in long closed end to end.
