Hi

Been reading/drooling on here for a while, some awesome setups & great designs going around & I can only dream of being able to do something similar but I have to wait until I own a house...landlord won't like me ripping down the garage.

First things first, this is my garage @ home. 2 bay + 1 bay workshop. Complete mess in there but good setup for me (DIY car modder & general tinker-er).

Then there's my new detailing workshop, bought the business a bit over 6 months ago & wanted to last 12 months before doing any major work to the building. But that itch is getting harder to ignore so I'm contemplating bits & pieces. It's roughly 20m x 15m (haven't actually measured oops) inside, so essentially 4x large car bays but only middle 2 have access doors (car swing a small car in the end bay as well if needed). Out the back is a double wash bay, one side taken up by some ramps used for underbody cleaning & rustproofing.

(Note: alot of the empty shelves down the end has now been removed.)

My ideas:
* Cover walls in a gyprock/plasterboard/blueboard etc & paint the usual white or white over grey 2 tone. Reflect much more light, looks alot more professional & covers up the old owners use of the wall as spray paint backing.
* Proper lighting in the middle 2 bays, currently only have 4x fluro tubes per bay which are fairly high up & no use unless it's a dark & overcast day or the doors are closed. Not sure what they are called but we have 2 of the large round fittings commonly seen in warehouses going in soon.
* False ceiling - love to do it but don't think it will ever happen, make the place look so much nicer & clean + be able to mount fluro's closer to the ground.
* Floor coating - years of neglect from being a mechanics & detailers is showing, not sure if I should epoxy coat, paint (& re-do yearly) or do large porcelin/ceramic tiles around the first 3 bays & leave the far end concrete since it's rarely used. There is a few cm's gap under the doors too so dust/dirt blows in alot & the extra height from tiles or ever the interlocking tiles would limit that.
* Revised & new shelving - going to happen no matter what, dodgey huck ups from leftover timber is ****.
* Tidy up office - probably some large carpet tiles & make a little waiting area - area is only 12x3m.
* Exterior - repaint one colour, new clear laserlite roof sheets, general tidy up etc.

Any thoughts/comments/ideas to help me out????

Welcome to the board. Good to see another West Aussie here.

Looks like you have two decent garages to customise. You'll get plenty of advise on heating here. Im sure it gets ****** cold in Albany.

There is a social section for Aussies here too.

Good luck with the business.

Hi
My ideas:
* Cover walls in a gyprock/plasterboard/blueboard etc & paint the usual white or white over grey 2 tone. Reflect much more light, looks alot more professional & covers up the old owners use of the wall as spray paint backing.
Being a detailing shop you'd have to be careful on what you choose because of all the moisture that will be around - just a thought, maybe it'd be fine I don't know :)
As a cheaper alternative, maybe paint the inside of the roof, it will help reflect light and still look fairly neat
I don't think porcelain tiles are a good idea - you'll end up going a&%$ over head. Alot of modern shops have some sort of paint with a grit in it and thats fairly grippy, would be alot safer for you.
* Revised & new shelving - going to happen no matter what, dodgey huck ups from leftover timber is ****.
* Tidy up office - probably some large carpet tiles & make a little waiting area - area is only 12x3m.
Just throwing ideas around, but an old 50's/60's sedan bench seat would be a cool couch, and maybe a few vintage thingamagigs rather than a painting of an ocean or something silly like that :lol_hitti
* Exterior - repaint one colour, new clear laserlite roof sheets, general tidy up etc.

Any thoughts/comments/ideas to help me out????
