DeVilbiss is recalling oil-less air compressor sold under these names:
DeVilbiss, Craftsman, Porter-Cable, Delta & Husky
due to fire hazard. Details in the link.

Mine is part of the recall. I called this morning and was told they'll send a prepaid label to mail it back :shocking:. It's a 25-gal unit! Am I supposed to box it up? I think they are still gearing up and don't have all the details yet. Nothing is on the DeVilbiss website about it.

Anyway, FYI.

Didn't they do the exact same thing like 5 years ago?

Or am I only thinking of the class action suit regarding inflated (no pun intended) hp and cfm ratings?

I'm glad to see mine isn't on the list. It's a 60 gallon and I would hate to have to move it out.

Although, thinking about this, I aguy at work has one that doesn't work, I wonde rif it's part of this recall.

I guess I called too soon, as they were still figuring out what to do. After a couple of days I called again. This time I was given the number for the nearest repair place and told to work it out with them. They said just bring it in. The only problem is they are about an hour's drive away, and only open during normal business hours. I'll need to take a day off from work! And that's just to drop it off. I'll need another day to go pick it up!

Heh. I got this notice at work. We had one that has been stored intentionally disabled (fittings removed) by me for years because it....would overheat and never cycle off.

The kicker: Checked the model number, and it is specifically NOT recalled.

I think that was the third Craftsman compressor in 10 years that died on us.

If I owned one of these recalled units I would do myself a favor and turn it into a portable tank or boat anchor. After rebuilding one of these in the past, I wouldn't waste the time expecting someone doing warranty work to get it right.

Boy, they take their time with these recalls sometimes, don't they? I had one of the Craftsman ones on the list, and that thing would get so hot you could fry bacon on the damned thing. It melted the plastic cover, so I removed it and eventually sold the underpowered shitheap and bought an old Emglo.
