Garage drain useless

I have house built in the 1960's with a septic system. The garage drain originally worked 8+ years ago and after winter sand deposits and car washes has completely stopped working. It has been explained to me that this drain in question could actually go to nowhere but a small gravel pit just below the garage floor. Is it possible to restore use to it? Should I just leave the darn thing alone? Any recommendations on attacking this issue?

Clean the top off, remove the grate and fill it with concrete flush with the floor.
In other words...do away with it.

I have one that is connected to the city sewer and works on occasion...then one day the sewer was 2" deep in the garage! I used a plumbers test plug from Lowes wich just cost a couple bucks and put the grating back on.

Depends on how badly you want it. If I wanted it, I would cut a section of concrete out, dig a hole and bury a plastic barrel drilled full of holes. Fill around the barrel with #1 crushed stone and replace the concrete. Or fill in the drain and forget about it, spend the extra time drinking beer.

It may be a French drain- a drain to just the ground. It may be a dispersal type drain, may have a section of drainage type pipe with holes in it. May be a proper drain and have a plugged P Trap. I would assume first that it may be a p trap type drain that could go some where. See if you can feed a rod into it and clear it, if it just dead stops or you pull back a lot of solid mud then it is one of the others, dig up and restone is the only way then.
