This weekend I finally finished up my Supercoat garage project. I spent alot of time on this site reading about what worked, didnt work, problems, issues , prep etc.. Good Information to be found here!

I chose Supercoat because a buddy used it a few years ago & his looks really good still. He treats his alot harsher than I will treat mine ( welding etc). I will be doing routine auto work in mine ( I say that now but who knows what hidden projects will happen to the 65 GTO) .. plus wrenching on my motocross bikes. Also looked into epoxycoat & durall.

Here is the main part of the garage with the frige , freezer & some storage moved out into it from a 10x10 area I did first..

I rented a shot blaster for $500 but it broke in 15 seconds. They told me it would be 2 weeks to fix it. That really ticked me off as I had everything planned out. So off to plan B.. Acid Etching. I really wanted to avoid this but I went to home depot & bought a few gallons on the nasty stuff & then to HEB for 5 - 4lb boxes of baking soda. So I acid etched sections & scrubbed it with a stiff garage broom, after a bit neutralized with baking soda & rinsed 2 times with water & sqweegy & then pressurewashed & squeeged. Then I used a hand grinder to rough up a bit more where the cars will be.

Here is the floor drying out...

Due to weather & work I didnt get to tackle the floor for over a week... Here is the 1st coat ...

Day 2 - 2nd coat with flakes...

The wifey threw most of the flakes out & decided to do the steps in a heavier coat. Note - we added the dark blue, metal flake silver chips. The standard color is white, black & cobalt blue which kinda gets lost in the grey. Oh & some of the white ones are glow in the dark which look neat at night.

Day 4 - 2nd clear coat & more anti skid...

I used the 2 part top clear coat as opposed to the standard glaze coat that comes with supercoat. The 2 part clear is lots more durable than the reg glaze coat esp to chemicals , oils etc...

I talked to Dawn, Brian & Ken @ supercoat & they were all very helpfull & easy to contact.

I guess my only gripe is in 2 areas you can see where i started & stopped rolling to throw the flakes out because the grey is slightly off color to the other 75% of the floor. Its like 1 shade too light. But its hard to notice & is where the car/truck will be parked. Otherwise really happy with how it turned out.

NICE!!!!! Hope it holds up well for you with the acid etching instead of the shotblasting. I would hate to see all that hard work not pay off in the long run.

Man don't scare the guy. Acid etch is just fine and actually I prefer it. It just takes longer because you have to let it dry, but then the shot blaster takes longer to do, so either way is good.

BTW your floor looks great.

thanks guys..

Floorguy gave me a bid in the spring for my floor ( as did Kingham on here also) they both do great work here in central Tx. Just was a bit outta my price range with a new house & other projects.

As I said I tried the shotblasting route but it broke in 15 seconds.. but boy did it blast the floor.

I also acid etched the floor but also took a diamond grinder to the areas where the cars will be so thats a lil extra protection.

Floorguy & other floor vendors bring some good info to this site.

I am going to keep cars off it for at least a week.. maybe longer for my 4x4 truck.

AS for the goat.. got it back in 86 for1st car... turned 16 & 2 weeks later it was wrecked.... ( I was rearended)... fast forward to 2 summers ago & i bought it back... wife got it for my b-day... a few years back she got me a ws-6 trans am for my 30th... she rocks!

of course she did the hard work on the floor -- she tossed the flakes out lol :wtf:

Floor looks really good! I am guessing you just finished the glaze recently if you still aren't parking on it. Would be interested to know how long it takes to cure. Still think mine isn't fully cured, but I used the stuff that came with the super kit.

I agree on the customer service from Supercoat, top notch. Very easy to reach and very helpful.

Mine seems really well cured. In some spots on the driveway I have to push really hard with a screw tip to get a impression. Now thats in a 1/8th inch thick blob.

Since I put the last clear coat on sat morning I am going to give the floor a good week without cars. I;ll prob start moving my metal cabinets back in tomorrow night. anyone know of a place to get a good oil catch mat for under the GTO... Have a lil ****** leak that for now is being caught by cardboard.

The 2-part clear went on alot thicker than the glaze I did in utility room. Once I get the cabinets out of my utility room I am going to reglaze it ( but go around the freezer & water softener)

I have 4 superkits, & 2 gallons of the 2-part glaze left over.. anyone want a deal ?
