I am working on heating my shop and have a question.
My radiant tube heater will be about 30 feet from the gas meter.
Not sure if I should run the black pipe up the wall and over from the outside wall exposed? Or should I run all the pipe inside exposed on the interior wall.
Eather way the Pipe will be hung from the metal ceiling.
Thanks

Either way is fine. You're going to want to paint any black pipe that is outside, as it will rust if you don't. By code, the part that actually comes through the wall must be "coated". That could be as simple as wrapping it in tape.

I had the gas line run to my heater in the garage by a lic. heating and air company and nothing was said about doing anything to the couple of feet of exposed black pipe. Any particular wrapping work better than another? Glad that you posted that since mine would have been left alone otherwise. Not much there and where it is at it isn't exposed to rain and snow but I guess it would still be subject to rust.

I think he is referring to the 5 to 8 inches that actually are inside the wall, being coated (required by code) and indeed, if you have exposed black iron pipe, you would be well off to paint it or otherwise protect it.
