Can't decide which screwdrivers to purchase

I would like to get a good set of screwdrivers that will last me for a long time and are comfortable to use. I actually have some Snap On hard handles at work and love them to death. I would buy some for home but my wife doesn't really care for the idea of me dropping $100 on a set of screwdrivers.

Right now I am looking at 3 options
Craftsman Pro
Husky Pro
JH Williams

I actually handled the Craftsman Pro's today in the store and liked them a lot. The only part I don't care for is how only certain sizes have the hex. I have never handled the Husky Pro's, but I've heard good things from others here on GJ. And the JH Williams black handles look identical to the orange handle Snap On's that I have at work.

The one thing I do like about Craftsman Pro over JH Williams is the easy return policy if one breaks on me.

So I am leaning towards Craftsman Pro, any reasons why I shouldn't?

Nope.

Of that group and especially looking at warranty returns, then even I would do Craftsman Pro.

Unlimited budget and a weekly truck is S-O for me.
Wera is a damn close second but warranty work is send-away.
I've got a full set of older Facom's and while I like them, some are NLA if ever broken . Bummer.

Yeah I really was thinking of Wera's but having to send it away if they break, that's the only thing that stinks. Maybe I'll pick up some Wera's in a Torx or something that I won't use as often. They have pretty decent prices too, can't complain about that at all.

I bought a set of Husky Pros, and the tips looked terrible. There's no way I could recommend them. The Craftsman Pros are better, but I do like my Williams a lot. They seem to be a great value.

The trick to buying husky pro is buy the open stock

The open stock must be better with the husky pro, because my dad bought a set, and they are complete garbage. The flat heads corners rounded off, and the Phillips turned to mush days after buying. Also, the C-man pro at work look very similar, if not worse. I would never waste money on them.

I just purchased the HF orange/green set to get me by, until I pull the trigger on a few wera laser tips.

I have never used Williams though.

Open Stock? Like clearanced because it's an opened item?

Open stock is where you buy a single screwdriver. Buying them from open stock gets you the really good ones and you can examine the closely. Seems like you get seconds in the sets

Husky Pro and Cman Pro are most likely from the same production line. Perhaps you just got a bad batch, i've seen people get some really terrible looking williams drivers as well. Either Cman or Husky pro are a good choice in my opininon since you will eventually destroy the tips if you use them enough and obviously to get Williams replaced you'd be relying on the mail in system. With the advantage of B&M you can pick your replacement on the spot.

Here are the tips on my home set of the 6pc Cman Pro set which cost me about $24. Very little use [prefer a driver w/ bits]. My only real complaint would be the textured finish is pretty easy to wear off.

+1 for Wera. Great, grippy, comfortable handles, and the laser-cut tips really work. If you want something you can pound on, get Wera Chiseldrivers--metal cap on the handle with a 1/4 drive accommodation if you need more torque.

For quick replacement I would go with the C-Man. Me personally I like my Allen brand set, but for warranty I would have to go mail or find an industrial warehouse that would do it even if I didn't buy them there.

I have to agree w/ Jack on this...Tools ****!

Only because I spend so much money on them....LOL

Which JH Williams are you considering? The blue/grey two-toned handles or the black grippy former Snap-On type handles?

Search ebay for "JH WILLIAMS 8 PIECE PREMIUM MIXED SCREWDRIVER SET USA." This is the Snap-On style handle. I bought this plus the flat blade set. Awesome! Love the grippy handles especially when my hands are oily, and the tips are strong. The handle sizes go up with the screwdriver size which makes perfect sense. Yes they're a bit more $, but not crazy, and they're made in USA and should last a looooong time.

The same Xcelite set can be picked up at FRY's as well if you have one nearby. Price ranges from $20-$30, and they usually have the matching Precision Set. Thats what i use for work, with a nice set of Witte and Vessel at home.
