I figured people here would appreciate and understand my excitement.

The day we bought our house about twelve years ago, I pointed at that exact spot, and told my wife, "someday there will be a shop right there". It took long enough, but "someday" finally arrived.

I'm pretty excited!!! The structure should be finished by Friday.
The garage door and opener will be installed next Monday,
And the electric will be run the week between Christmas and new years.

I decided to wait till spring for the concrete.

Just to put things in perspective the garage door opening is 14' wide by 14' high, and the bottom of the window that is next to it is about 6' up from the ground.

In the last week or so as a member of this forum I picked up allot of good info here to incorporate into my shop.

Thanks,

Chris

Congratulations Chris!! You'll really enjoy the shop.

I like the color scheme. Looks familiar.:)

We dreamed about one for longer than you, but we're enjoying it now.

Plan everything under the concrete before you pour. Makes life much easier.

Morton... Wow you don't fool around.

Nice shop.

I did price around, but in the end I figured the extra money was worth it especially since this shop will probably be with me for the rest of my life.

I also think the sun picture with the steam rising looks angelic.

It is done!!!

They finished the structure today. The garage door and opener will be put in on Monday. My wife and I are pretty happy with the way it looks.

Why you are excited about a new garage totally elludes me. Why would anyone get excited about some stupid structure that you will no doubt spend countless hours in working on projects that have little or no meaning in life.

The fact that your wife is excited about it just supports that you have no life.

Just think of all the money you have wasted on this structure.

Would your time not be better used sitting on the couch in front of the TV watching engaging programs like "Desperate Housewives"? Think of all the time your loosing surfing the web and reading social network blogs....

Just because my wife and I just finished a 2 story garage that has an art studio for her, storage for all our junk, a play area for the kids....and I get all of the down stairs....does not mean that I 'appreciate' what your feeling.....

Nope....excitement is not justified.....until you 'break in the garage'......time to fill her up....your spending too much time on the computer......

Nice job......very nice job......and hopefully by now you realize I'm just busting your chomps....

Really nice. I reall like the small porch, er, carport. I keep thinking that I should put some sort of "overhang" over my main door.

Enjoy your new "digs"!

What size is your building? I don't think that was mentioned. Looks great.

30' W X 52' L X 22.6' H, 16' ceiling, 14' X 14' door opening. The porch is 10' by 14'

The size of this shop was partly set by need and partially set by code.
I need the door height to pull my motor home in, or anything else I buy in the future. The height of the door called for a 16' ceiling according to my Morton rep. The code in my town says that the shop can't cant be taller than my house. so the 30' width was chosen because it pushed the 4:12 pitch roof up to within a 1/2" of the height of my house. The code in my town also says that the shop can't cant have a bigger footprint than my house. so the 52' length brings the footprint to within 8 square feet of my house.

Well, winter is finally over and I had them pour the slab yesterday. We had a fluke frost Monday night, so I'm kind of glad they could not make it on Monday. They need to saw cut today, and will pour my driveway and walk tomorrow. I'm pretty happy but those little fibers in the concrete are an eyesore. I hope they wear away quickly.

Chris

Here is the insulation being installed around the perimeter.

looks great any updates

Sure,

We are doing the landscaping this spring so the exterior appearance is starting to shape up. The interior is a constant battle to keep clutter down. The clutter is winning!

View from my driveway: I plan on putting rock down the right side of the driveway and building this summer.

I'm glad my wife talked me into putting this covered porch/patio area on the building. When things start going bad on a project I sit out here for a few minutes and regroup(aka cool off). It is also great for having a beer, BBQ, and BS sessions with friends.

Im still getting things for the shop and am still moving things around to make room for new stuff and better flow. I suppose I will feel completely settled in after a few years.
