I'm getting ready to pour a 30x48 slab in my new raceshop. I think I want to Rustoleum Epoxy Pro it. From what I can gather it should go like this

1. Have contractor make slab smooth. Then use a polisher or not?
2. Rent a concrete buffer to rough it up.
3. Wait 28 days to apply epoxy(4 kits) Do a moisture test during those 28 days.
4. Make sure floor is clean, clean, clean
5. Apply epoxy pro, let it dry then put clear coat on it. 1 or 2 coats

Am I right or all messed up. I will mention I love this site and there is tons of info but sometimes 2 people say 2 different things and a dummy like myself dont know whos right.

Please help to get a great floor:beer::beer:

You are on the right track.

Couple of thoughts:

1. Do NOT use a concrete sealer unless you plan on having to grind it up before you do the epoxyshield.

2. Depending upon the finish, you may not need to "rough it up". You are looking for a sandpaper finish. Generally, acid etching will open the pores up enough to accomplish this.

3. I would wait 30 days at a minimum for the concrete to cure.

4. I think you are only going to need 3 kits, but buy 4 to be safe.

5. Be sure the temps are within their suggested ranges. Since I don't know where you are located, can't help more than that.

6. You may want 1 extra person to help you a) mix up the next batch since their is a "pot life" to adhere to, b) scatter the flakes and c) cut in the next section.

Good luck!

Side note about Epoxy color I did not think of before today. It's raining a bit here and, dirty water from the cars shows up much better against light tan color then on concrete. Just something to think about if it bothers you and, depending on where you live if it's an issue.

Let me throw a wrench in this...

Several years ago (maybe 5) Wolverine Coatings developed new technology that allows the concrete to be coated very quickly after the pour.

BondTite 1501 is a concrete curing sealer that should be applied to the pour as soon as you can walk on it. Just like other concrete sealers, it will help strengthen the concrete. In addition, NO PREP is needed prior to coating with our products other than making sure the surface is free of dirt, oil, and other contaminates.

The BondTite 1501 can be topcoated in as little as 17 hours. You DO NOT have to wait 28 days!

LiquaTile 1184 is our lowest technology product and is overkill for garage floors, race car shops, and even heavy industrial manufacturing. It is regularly subjected to forklift traffic with HEAVY loads. It can be applied even when the temperature is only 40f. While we know some people have applied it even less than 35f, we don't recommend it.

The LiquaTile 1184 is going to be far more chemical resistant, abrasion resistant, impact resistant, and have a MUCH higher bond strength.

There is also a larger color choice on the LiquaTile 1184 and the sky is the limit on flakes (DecoFlakes 130)... We can make about 100 colors of flakes, we stock about 30 colors, and they can be blended any way you want.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say the above post was an ad?!?

Not that I care, I just don't want to see too much "spam."

I assume this is OK with Ryan?

Hey now, the Marshall Tucker Band is from Spartanburg SC so he can't be all that bad!

:lol_hitti

(Boy I'm really carbon dating myself there!)

Wolverine has been posting here and there. I think having him on the board adds valuable information.

Our Operations Manager knows that whole crowd. They have a HUGE following here of well... just a bunch of 'good ol boys'... and girls... lol... They also have several off-shoot bands that are pretty good. Do you follow any of those?

No, sure don't know which ones. Are you willing to share the names? The only other person I look for news about on occasion is Doug McCorkle from MTD. Not sure if he is still with them. Anyway, this is kinda "off topic". Send me a PM on the above.

Most of the posts sound like ads, but he is very forthcoming with the information on the coating and tells people what they need to do to apply his products properly, which is a good thing if you are using wolverine coatings. Maybe a little heavy handed, but does not seem to "upset the apple cart". Cheers!
