Information wanted on Wilton Corner Vise

I seek information about the Wilton "corner vise," which looks like a woodworking vise that can be mounted to either any corner of a workbench to provide both horizontal and vertical clamping.

I'd like to know:

1. What was the specific intended application for this design?

2. When was it produced? (not listed in my mid-1950s Wilton catalog)

3. Did these originally have one sliding extension, or two?

4. How common is/was this model?

5. What is the Wilton model number?

6. Price when new?

7. Reviews by anyone who has used one?

I've attached a picture taken from a Google model on the web - I am unable to find decent pictures of an actual vise.

Thanks in advance.

there are many of that style of vise still sold. i am not sure but you may want to check wilton's product line.

i had a couple of them once but were both broken. the cast was broken from being dropped i think.

sorry i can't help with any of your actual questions though. im sure other can.

I've got one like that but a columbian. It is a woodworking vise. Unfortunately, your bench needs to be shaped correctly to fit the vise. Some workbenches (like mine), have posts that are just in the wrong spot to allow it to fit right.

That vise first showed up in the Wilton catalogs in the 70's just about the time they started importing alot of their small tooling including their Tradesmans 1740,50,&60. That woodworkers vise might be an import as well.

I've made a few of this style vise. The first was a machine shop project at California State College, now California University of Pennsylvania. We cast the jaws in aluminum and machined the rest from CRS
They were a very nice teaching tool.

AUTOPTS - The pup is looking fine.

Where is the best place, other than Ebay, to advertise a few vises that i have for sale?

Some are Wilton and some are Morgan '10A models'.

The Morgan Vise Company of Aurora, ILL. was purchased In February 1970 by Milwaukee Tool. The guide rods in the front jaw are held in place by hex nuts, this places the manufacture date to before 1970.

I just bought one today. Haven't even taken it out of the car yet. It is missing the adjustable dog. Any ideas on finding one? I'll probably need to visit a machinist to fabricate one.

Well - Here's a couple of photos... I bought it at the Goodwill. It's almost impossible to find any info on it.

There is a number on the back casting (shown)

The jaws are 7" by 3" in either direction, opens a full 9". It weighs 226 pounds and is rapid acting.

Just got one at the local flea for $20, clean enough I won't even re-paint it. Seems like a nice, if different, woodwork vise. Yes, it feels like the 25 pound range. It will probably go on a new woodwork bench, or maybe opposite corner from the 4.5" Wilton bullet if I go for a general purpose bench design instead.
