I happened to be in Costco today and noticed that they have floating wood grain laminate flooring with attached pad for $1.69/sq ft. That's a very competitive price, but is their a reason why this would be a bad idea for a garage floor?

Moisture would likely ruin it, plus oil or other fluids could damage it.

Whats primary use of the garage? Jacks, welding, grinding, etc will destroy it. Parking cars may de-laminate it similar to hot tire pickup on epoxy or the force of moving the car after time will pull apart the clicklock joints. The low cost stuff is just a picture of wood on top of cardboard with foam on the bottom.. Moisture will destroy, you would need a good sealed vapor barrior underneath for sure. Wet cars, snow/ice on cars, or water seepage under the garage doors will also destroy it.
I've seen this stuff fall apart in houses under normal living in just a couple years.. There are quality ranges of course, and poor installation that can add to the issues.
Not garage related but:
My favorite was a store demo at a high end flooring place when I was building my house and shopping for real site finished hardwood. The salesperson took a piece of $7sqft engineered wood floor, and gave the speech about it won't mold, split, warp, or scratch. And then said real wood ***** because it will scratch and dent moving furniture or dropping items, then pulled out a car key and starts to scratch the sample board looking at me saying 'see this stuff is scratch is proof, I'm trying to damage it and I can't, so normal use will never hurt it' well needless to say when I looked down the board was scratched all to hell... The awkard silence in the store was awesome. I held off and put in carpet til I could do more research, and will be doing real site finish on my own one day..

100% solids epoxy system is by far the best affordable homeowner diy product.
That's where I am at the moment. I'll have someone else do the prep (lots of grinding) and then do the rest and still come in well under $900 for 600 sq ft.
Costco and Sams club rolled floor would be cheaper, but they're textured, and I have lots of heavy things on casters that need to be rolled around. Its hard enough on smooth concrete.
