Vise Info

I have Simplex Utility Mdl# 600 vise. It has a 5" grip. It closes very good, and is rusted, but in good shape otherwise. Is this a good vise, and is it worth anything?

Looks to be in pretty good shape really, Id say its from the 60s or 70s! Do the Jaws close flush and square? I might look into cleaning off the paint and rust, maybe see if that back jaw could tighten up a bit too. Grease the screw and it should be good for another 30-50 years minimum. Or you could do a full resto like many on here.

The jaws to close both flush and square. The back jaw is missing a screw, so that will be a easy fix. I will bead blast it and restore it. I just found out on Google search, it was manufactured in 1953 or 54 in Ohio.

In the last pic it kinda looks like the moveable jaw is bend down somewhat. Maybe an optical illusion. In any case, definitely blast, paint and lube that thing. Should last from now until doomsday!

That is a very nice older covered screw vise you have there! If you decide to derust it or freshen it up.....definitely go with electrolysis. If you haven't ever done it, then it will just amaze you how it will remove rust and old paint while you watch TV or whatever. Simplex and Desmond formed up a company somewhere along the lines in history. I have seen Desmond only vises but not a Simplex only vise.
