havent posted in a while, but ive still been kreeping

well my dad brought this home today. price was good, free! it works (very good to) the only problem is that it smkes. the engine is intercooled and is deat silent, but it smokes out the back. any ideas why? ill be cleaning this up a bit this week, but im hoping i can get ideas as to why it smokes so i can fix it. thanks!

You're going to be put to work with that. Might try taking off the belt and turning by hand to see if it's hanging up somewhere.

no idea! but apparently if it overheats, it shuts off.

when i turn the motor by hand (turn the drum and it turns easy) theres no rubbing, or anything. could it just be that oil is burning off the back? there is some there for some reason.

All it is is a motor from a swamp cooler. Nothing more.

My guess is that the motor is a bit underpowered for such a mixer. It is designed to power a fan and push air. Not a 50lb drum with 200+lbs of concrete.

i say pull the belt and run the motor. if it runs good and there is no obvious binding anywhere, i say run it till it dies. the price was right after all.

Find the correct motor, price it out and go from there.

Dryer motor will be 240 volt, I think, maybe heating element only?

Don't scrap it! I'm sure you can find a used motor to replace the one that smokes. Very cool looking mixer. I haven't seen one like that.

hha, i dont think itll be scrapped. its definately getting taken appart and cleaned up though. my dad doesnt understand why (cement mixer, itll get dirty) but hey, maybe itll work better.

The dryer motor should work. The one in my cottage stopped heating, it would only turn. I brought it inside the house and plugged it in, and everything worked great. The problem was the wiring for the plug. It was only getting 110 volts. And the dryer was only turning and not heating.

Smoke coming out of an electric motor means that something is burning. It won't continue to just chug along.

word for word what my mom said. luckaly we finished all our cement four years ago. but me and my dad do fences for a living, so this will come in handy sometimes.

im goingto make a video of this thing running so maybe it can lear some things up.

no smoke, not hitch. nothing. only "smoke" i saw was dy concrete from the drm. but i put water in it, and is working great.

Hey there's an idea though - when that electric motor burns out you can hook the bike to the drum and use human power to mix the concrete!
