Seriously he does. The past 2 weeks he has forgotten to charge me for $60 total in tools. Last week he didnt charge me for a Torx socket and this week he didnt charge me for 2 center punches. I brought the socket to his attention this week and then paid for it. So I guess I will just have to kill some more time on the tool truck next week. He is a super nice guy and I am not one to take money from a hardworking person, so I will be back to get my stuff on order and pay for the punches.

it is easy to over look little stuff when everything is going on in the truck. i do it now and then as well. My customers bring it to my attention. it usually happens when there are more than 2 or 3 guys on the truck.

I'm sure your honesty will be rewarded, either in this life or when you go up to meet your 72 Virgins!!! :bounce:

By the way I've heard that the Virgins are "Perpetual Virgins", meaning that no matter how many times you 'visit' them, they magically remain Virgins nonetheless!!!

I know your skepticism thus the wise refrain--"Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die to get there!!"

Out of curiosity, have you ever had anybody try to steal from your truck? If so, what ended up happening? I would definitely let the shop owner know he has a thief working for him.

I knew that a spark plug socket and ratchet in a set was missing after going to my first shop. I went back the next day and gave everyone in the shop a bill for the tools missing. it took about 5 mintues and the tools were brought back by the lead tech and he said that they were found in the bathroom a few minutes after i left.
i was not going to charge everyone for the tools, but it sure made every one think about covering for a buddy.
the other one was a guy took a 7 inch soft grip pick ( ice pick basically ) he was a rough looking character, i just chalked that one up to not getting stabbed with it. he was three times my size and i wasnt brave enough to ask him to give me the tool back.

Good to hear you were honest. Thats the right thing to do:thumbup:

If it were Wal Mart I might not be as concerned but I am not going to take money away from a good hard working guy. After all if I dont pay for them he has to, and I dont want to be treated that way so he shouldnt either. Whats strange though is I have been the only one on the truck both times when he was ringing it all up. He did take get a phone call in the middle of ringing up the items today which might have thrown him off but other than that it was just me. This is only the second time I have ever set foot on a tool truck and he did it both times. He said he has only been on the job for 6 months and since I was buying some not as common stuff he was questioning when I used them and what they were for so that he could tell his customers down the road. I did the same thing when I started working at a hardware store, if I didnt know what I was selling I would ask the guy, cause down the road if someone needs the same thing but maybe not know what they need, I know from learning from the previous customer and it makes me a better salesman. So I respect what he was doing.

What happened there? You said " it's $ much" and he said "no"?

I have done the same thing - I gave a crack head $5 once when he approached me while I was with my wife and kids, with some crazy story about needing gas $. I walked off with him and handed him $5.

When I traded a used ratchet for a new F80 I was told there was no cost. After offering to pay for it twice and still getting the same answer I nicely said "Thank you, next time I need something you're already in my phone" Granted I'm not what one would call a routine customer but I was very thankful for it.

hes rewarded my honesty with free stuff...nothing insane like rats...but he'll throw me a bone or give me an ethos adaptor or something which is always useful

Remember, he said it was Snap On.

:lol_hitti

For that price, he should have said "Tiffany." I know snap on makes top quality tools, but $60 for one socket and two punches seems excessive. Stop the madness........Really???? $60 for a socket and a couple punches??? I'll pass.

It wasnt quite $60 and it was a Torx Plus 50 socket, not too common. I have yet to find any other manufacturer that can compete with the quality of SO Torx, plus not many make the plus sockets anyway. There punches are lifetime warranty. I dont know about you but for my most used punches that will most definitely pay for itself in a few years. I have broken bent, and destroyed many different USA manufactured ones and SO last longer and are completely covered. Get over your Harbor Freight hardons and stop polluting my thread, thanks :beer::beer::beer::beer:

Actually, I've never bought a single tool from Harbor Freight either. I guess my tool purchases fall some where in the middle between snap on and Harbor Freight. If you're happy with your tool purchases, and the price seemed reasonable to you, then that's all that matters. Right? You don't have to justify anything to me or anyone else. Sorry that I polluted your thread. I know I was a little off topic. It just seemed like a lot of money to me, and I happened to put my thoughts in writing. I'll try to be a little more responsible regarding my comments to threads on public forums in the future. I'd like to make it up to you. How's this:

"Way to go!!!" Great job paying only $60 for a socket and a couple punches!!! YOU **** for paying that low price!!! You practically stole them!!!":beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Ha the sarcasm is appreciated and thank you for standing up like a man. I have absolutely no problems myself with HF tools in certain instances and I own anything from HF up to SO with a lot of brands in the middle. I just get very sick of a HF thread getting polluted with "chinese bashing" and a Snap On thread getting polluted with price or sometimes eve "chinese bashing"

The first thing I told my truck guy is that I am not the average mechanic he sees and that I like SO but will not purchase all my tools in SO because of price and I still think there are better tools out there compared to some of SO like there wire strippers for instance.

Thanks Robb. But I'm 100% serious when I say "buy what you like." You have to use it, and you're the guy paying for it. I KNOW that snap on makes some top quality stuff for sure. I was really just "thinking out loud (or in writing)" when I commented earlier in the thread. Quality costs!!! Next time, just tell me to "F" off and mind my own business!!! LOL!!!
