Holy ****!!! If that's the garage, is the house anyways near the same size or is that the house on top? Even if it is, it is still huge. And yes....need to see more pics. Need to see 2006 and 2007. LOL!!!

A shot of the complete outside minus the doors. The exterior concrete is colored to help it look more natural since this is basically the backyard
August05132.jpg

A view showing both doors. The 7 foot has to be redone later to make way for the loft. Oh well

Here are the lights. I used the Phillips Daylight Deluxe bulbs avail by mail order. They are remarkable bright.

Here is a shot after the epoxy coating

And another of the epoxy floor. Haven't been completely satisfied with this. In fact I have been disappointed in the durability and trouble with adhesion in some areas even though this was new concrete cured over 1 month and acid washed twice.

Wow - what a beauty! I was told to wait 6 months MINIMUM before coating witha solvent-based epoxy...so mine is naked until next spring. It's hard to keep it clean while working in there!!!

The instructions for mine epoxy said to wait min 1 month. It was about 2 months old when I applied. The epoxy itself is doing OK for the most part, but I also applied the clear coat on top and it seems to scratch easily.

Tell me about the loft....how much weight is it designed to handle?

How wide an area did you span?

What are the dimensions of the lumber?

Is it "free hanging" from wall-to-wall or are those metal things some type of support?

Inquiring minds, you know.....

Add me to that list of inquiring minds. Also how high is the ceiling under the loft? Looks like only about 8' :headscrat

Span is 20' wide by 29' long.
As far as the weight, I can't remember exactly but I can tell you that it is spec'd for Commercial application, not residential. The whole structure is over spec'd as the I-joists and LVL were both cut down a little from the initial lengths used to calculate load.
The LVL is free standing in that picure, but it does have to have support so that there is not more than a 20' continuous span. So on the side next to the bathroom I supported dead center (about 15' from ends) so again it is a little over spec'd. On the other side I did not want a pole in the middle, so I have one 5 ' from each end.
The metal you see hanging above are the supports for the garage door tracks. I simply cut these off at floor height with a Sawsall and left for now so I have power up there.

Nice build. I am a "neighbor" to the North. Its good to see Kentucky so well represented in the cool garage category. I have low-bay / high-bay interior configuration and dimensions that appears to be somewhat similar to yours. How are you lighting the high-bay section? What is your approach going to be in regards to heating / AC? Thanks.

VERY nice shop! You'll love the rotary lift. It's top of the line and you don't have to worry about it falling down while you're under it. Some things you don't want to save money on.

On the 7' door, rather than a major change, consider replacing the sectional with a roll up like this:
door.jpg

The unit rolls up into about 12" diameter. Should fit inside the joists of the loft.

I had 5 sliding 'barn door' type doors on my shop and just replaced them all with these doors from Janus. (Google roll up doors) Mine were made over in Carrollton GA and averaged a couple hundred bucks each...actually cheaper than building a barn door after you consider the material, track, rollers, etc. And they LOCK.

I can put one up by myself in about 2 hours but that is using a forklift to raise it up. Otherwise you'll need a helper. They're not heavy.

A problem with the standard sectional garage door is that, for me at least, the track is exactly the height of my raised hand. I swung at a wasp one time and nearly broke my hand on the end of the track.

Yes I have seen your thread also. Your garage is looking very nice.
Lighting in mine is Flourescent using Phillips Daylight Deluxe bulbs. I had to mail order them as I could not find them in any stores, but they are worth the trouble. As the name implies, they are like real daylight.
As for Heating and AC I have none so far. I would like to have a Heat pump, but justifying it is a little hard so far.
I will be starting on Hardwood flooring in the loft today that I picked up from Lumber Liquidators.

In answer to Zimmstoy, the floors were coated with U-Coatit. They look good from a distance, but they are not as durable as I expected.

In response to Pinkertonk, thanks for thesuggestion, but I have already re-hung the door as a vertical lift same as the 9' door.

What about the rest of the garage??? Is it finished? Would love to see shots of everything. I was upset to see this awesome garage wasn't 10+ pages long so I could see as much as possible.

bradleykd,
Yeah, small world huh. How's your truck going? I've seen it and it is very nice.
Looks like a generator may be needed again today.... It's ready to go.
