Flipping over an 8 ft truck bed.

My friends truck was totaled in an accident. He bought it from the insurance and is repairing it. He bought a salvage truck box and they loaded it onto his trailer upside down so he can completely rustproof it. He managed to lift it off the trailer and put it on sawhorses (still upside down).
Now......the question is.... how to safely flip it over without damaging sheetmetal using two engine hoists and ....?
Surely someone has done this before, right? End over end or roll it over? How do we do this?

a tall tree and a chainfall at 'cab end'. hoist up until hanging free and then pull 'tail gate end' out w/ come along attached to another truck bumper. winch come along as you lower chainfall.

You understand this 8ft box is sitting on sawhorses, in his suburban driveway. Theres no option of dragging it anywhere to find a tall enough tree.
I wish this was easy, but it aint.
Is there something we could fab up cheaply and quickly to "roll" this thing over with ?

Rent a forklift or small boom lift for an hour. It will be money well spent.

a few guys... it only took 4 of us to remove a full size bronco body..

if worse comes to worse get some movers blankets, lay them at one end. remove saw horse and lower the end, walk the other end to verticle and lay the other side down.

I think somewhere on here was a post showing someone who cut a couple of 1/2 rounds out of plywood and affixed it to the bottom of the car so the semi-circles were out to the side and then used the semi-circles to roll the body over. Something like this could work with your box using the engine lifts to control the let down. I believe if you search on 'rotisserie' you may find it.

Put it up on it's nose. That's the strongest end, not the tailgate end. On blankets or cardboard should protect the finish too. Continue to roll it to the correct position. This might not work well if you don't have the ceiling height. Four people should be able to handle it unless they are all old like me!

You guys are making this way more complicated than it needs to be!

I took my 6.5' bed off my truck by myself, they really aren't that heavy. Two guys in good shape or 4 guys to be safe can easily handle that bed. To flip it get two used tires and lay them down. Set one end of the bed on them and flip.

I agree with scott37300. 2 guys can easily flip a truck box. Just take your time and flip it end for end. Make sure to flip at the front end of the box and not the tailgate. I used to work at a salvage yard all the time and that is how they flip the boxes to get them upsided down and I'll bet you don't see any damage on the box that your buddy just purchased from the salvage yard. Easy Peezy, just like that and you're done!
