Looking to buy a new bench vise because my search for a used vise has been tiring. I'm looking at yost medium or heavy duty vise. Is the heavy duty vise worth the extra money.

Thanks

The limiting factor will most likely be what you are bolting it to. Medium duty is stronger than most average work benches.

It can be a frustrating search for a good used vise. Have you posted a "wanted" thread on this forum at all? There are several guys that frequently have really nice older American vises for sale at quite reasonable prices...

Good luck!

Haven't considered posting in the for sale section. Figured shipping would be expensive. The two yost I'm looking at are models 55C or 205.

it should almost be a requirement that new members register with a location. i've lost track of the number of times i thought maybe i could help someone out, looked to see where they were, and...blank.

And I quote "Please no low ballers, I know what these are worth." and of course there is no price given. Best offer? I wonder if he would ship to a New Mexico lowballer....sort of like a low rider.

No. That guy is crazy. You can get a NOS Columbian from Harry Epstein for around that. Granted, it is probably not as good as that vintage model, but it is still USA made Columbian. There is also something wrong with that vise. There is something on the slide. Could it be a cut? I would say a fair price for that 6 inch vise if in really good condition is 250. Is it worth more than that? Of course, but vises don't go for what there are worth on CL. I have two Columbians so I am familiar with them.

if your considering Yost, no doubt its a great vise. If your looking to buy a new one, I would consider calling Pat Neilis 616-396-2063 and ask if he has any blems which they might have. He's a super guy and he may give you a super deal.
