Picked up this tool roll a few weeks ago that included a set of small open wrenches; once upon a time they were called "ignition wrenches", but since modern ignition sytems have become virtually all electronic, I guess that name no longer applies. The wrenches are Vim/Durston, who apparently manufactures a lot of tools and components for government contracts.

Ironic, I picked up this one last weekend as well and have been meaning to post them on here. Are yours US made? Mine says American Kal but are really Japanese except for the screw starter and feeler guages.

Hoss: Very interesting; although the tool roll appears identical to mine, the tools are different. The wrenches in my set are marked "V-1" through "V-9", and are marked as being U.S. made, as is the pair of Wilde pliers, and the little screwdriver.

I'm told this set came from a DRMO auction at Camp Lejeune, NC.
Although I don't know if the tools can be bought new, there is a secondary market where they can be purchased; if you google "5180-00-422-8594", the NSN (national stock number), it will provide sources for the purchase of, presumably, used or surplus tool rolls.

Elroy has this set that clearly shows these as VIM

Here are a few shots of some VIM brand ignition wrenches. Elroy procured these at one of the local pawn shops for $5 several years ago. The kit contained a complete set of VIM brand wrenches. Elroy added his existing Craftsman to it.

The kit appears to be US Government issue as it states:

?????????????????
TOOL KIT AUTO ELECTRIC
SIZE 1
VIM-USA

Can't make out the part number on the top line.

These wrenches are OK for what they are. They appear to be a simple stamping not forged. For low torque applications they work fine. Elroy has seen VIM advertised in some of the speciality catalogs. Never seen them at a retailer.

Think I paid around $80 for them. My boat has points on it....might end up using 'em! ;)

Can those be bought new(not stolen)?

fwiw, here is what I found. The closest thing I could find to the first set by KAL (seller also has a 6pc set and feeler gauge too)

As far as Elroys set, I was thrown off at first with the amount of wrenches in the roll, but... re-read that he added the craftsman wrenches to the set.

There's like (3) sets in that roll PLUS some misc small stuff

Added these for example:

Only the VIM's are original to the "kit"
