Finally found a way to get the mower deck off the floor.

I was wanting to put my mower deck on the ceiling. All the bike ceiling hoists scared me, and the box store pulleys had the eyes break off pretty easily when I used them on another project (canoe).

I found Northern tool had a 100 lb bike type hoist, and ordered one.

I'm pretty happy with it.

A few things. Yes, I know the cleat is "sideways", but it's a hip roof, so that's the way it has to go to screw it in.

Also, I didn't fully trust it to hang from the rope, so as you can see, I have a safety chain on each end that I lower it on after I hoist it up and attach the safety chains.

It came with two hooks that dangled from each pulley end, but that didn't work for me, so I removed them (just held on with a carriage bolt), and bolted a length of chain on each of them instead.

The pulleys are plastic, which annoy me, but they seem strong enough. What I don't like is that there is too much side to side play between the pulleys (the ones that mount to the mower deck) and their brackets, and when the rope is slack, it can slip off the pulley. I'm going to see if I can get some large nylon washers or something to take up that gap, drill the rivets out, and reinstall them with bolts.

All in all though, it was worth it. It should be easy to remove the blades and sharpen them, too.

The board is lag bolted into the rafters with 4 5/16"x4" lag bolts, and the brackets are held on with 6 2" #12 screws in each of them. The chain is rated for 800 lbs, and so are the threaded links. I hung off the mower deck (with it on the safety chains). That's an extra 240 pounds, so it's got a good safety margin.

Neat set up but why do you "store" your deck? Here in Texas we only pull our decks after......well, we don't, unless something needs fix'n.

I like it! I'm like you, as much stuff as you can get off the floor the better. Using the chains was a good idea and it should be plenty safe.

It comes off every week, usually. Cultivating, box blading, dragging the driveway, clearing snow, moving the car trailer, using the forks on the three point to move something, etc.
