Hey guys,

So I don't know if I got a diamond in the rough here, or just paid $20 for $5 worth of scrap metal.

I found this Reelcraft hose reel on my local craigslist. The guy was asking $80 for it. After asking him what I thought were a bunch of good questions, I got him down to $60 over email. For mere $60 (relatively speaking), I was thinking I'd use this behemoth (it's BIG and HEAVY!) as a novelty/overkill hose reel for my rear house spigot which I use to wash cars in front of the garage.

But when I got there this evening, I find out the inlet fitting doesn't "free wheel" as I thought it would. The seller claimed ignorance on that matter and told me maybe it was just frozen. I was steamed and pretty much ready to walk away when he said "make me an offer", so I rolled the dice and gave him $20. (Only b/c I didn't have a $10 on me.)

I know zero about these kind of reels, does anyone know if that fitting is supposed to free wheel or do I need to buy a different fitting (I'm guessing directly from Reelcraft, or maybe ebay) that does do that so I can hook it to my spigot?

Yes the swivel is suposed to turn. Those 9k series reels are super HD I have the same model I picked up to use on my Diesel tank. My swivel is also trash and I didn't get the return spring with mine. If you decide to not repair it I will give you your $20 back:)

Do you know if I can just tear that fitting apart, soak it in WD-40 and get it functioning again?

Or does Reelcraft sell a new fitting for it? (Crossing my fingers it's not more than $50 if they do.)

I had a moment tonight to squirt some WD-40 on the that fitting. Gave it a moderate dousing. Let it sit for about 3 mins. Tapped it with a 3lb hammer and wha la! She swivels! Feelin' pretty good about that $20 gamble now.

But this thing is SO big and SO heavy, I'm not sure it's real practical to make it into the backyard hose. The spring is pretty tightly wound. It's almost hard for me to pull the hose out. I can see my wife doing a tug of war stance just to unwind it to water the flowers. And I can almost hear the bay window smashing into a million tiny bits when she gives it a flick to coil it back up and it gets away from her.

Hmm... might need to re-think this one. :headscrat

Yes it's probably way over kill for a garden hose reel  My offer still stands! I'd even be interested in buying the parts if you decide to not use it. As my swivel will not be resurrected with wd-40
