German made steel has as good a reputation as US made steel, so I wouldn't worry about it.
If it says Made in China, Made in Japan, or made in any other oriental country, you can start worrying about the quality of the steel. The Orientals have a reputation for crappy steel and poor quality products.
I think the Japanese are an exception... I'm quite sure their steel is as good or better than most. Swedish and British (Sheffield) steel is probably the best in the world.
