vintage lincoln lube cabinet restore

I am in the process of converting an old Lincoln lube cabinet I picked up to a oil drain catch for under my lift. Here are some pictures of the progress so far.

an oil drain catch for under my lift, to drain the engine oil from vehicles. I will have a 5 gallon bucket inside this and on 4 casters to move it around.

Luckily I just polished them, then painted the details, lettering,and background.

Here's some updates... I made a small roll around base for the lube cabinet.

I had to make it removable and yet stable, thus the small tabs that the cabinet sets on.

Here's a view of the inside, I had to make 3 of the inside corners braces, as they were missing.

The top will have something like my old drain cart... I welded a piece of pipe to a large washer and will use the old gas station lamp shade to drain the oil into. (After of course painting it red.)

Still in the planning stages of how to fab the extending pipe for the "lamp shade funnel".

Check the music stores or pawn shops for a microphone stand. They are extendable and should be plenty sturdy. Look the mike clips over too they might be of use also.

Those were often bought as a matched pair. By that, I mean the grease gun like you have was paired with a similar looking oil drain. Your restoration is not too far off from the original version. The cover sat on a dolly, inside was a larger oil tank (around 16 gal. IIRC) with a drain spout in the bottom that ran outside the cover. Waste oil tanks were underground in those days so you just pulled it over the tank opening and drained. The drain funnel and telescopic tubing was held in place by the top cover and the tank was sealed to prevent spillage. Great Job!

Finished it today... wish I had the small trim piece that goes around the outside even with the Lincoln badge.

I decided to make some mounts on the side to hold the telescoping tubing I had for it. then painted the lamp shade oil catch to match. Now on to my next project...
