A local CL ad for what is claimed to be a Snap On KRL722 bottom box. The photo shows what looks like a 12 drawer box and non spring casters.

Are there details that will identify the difference between a KRL and a KRA? I am thinking maybe latches, handles, slides, casters.
I would like to find a used KRL and if a deal pops up I want to know what I am buying so I don't get hosed.
Thanks.

This is a KRL722, it should have 11 drawers and 24" deep.

If it has 12 drawers, it could be the older model KRL761 which is basically the same box except the second long drawer is replaced with one narrow and one wide drawer. It could also be a Classic78, which is also 24" deep. It has more features than the rest of the KRA line, but it's technically a KRA box.

The rest of the KRA series is 18" or 20" deep. KRA boxes also don't have the aluminum corner trim, but there are aftermarket corner guards that can make it look similar.

The KRL722 and KRL761 do not have spring casters like the rest of the larger KRL boxes.

Thanks for all the great input.

I'm having computer trouble right now with attachments. I will try and get a picture up.

The wheels do have steel centers but they are not spoked.

i have a KRL722 and it has non-spring casters with steel centers. to be honest, that's the onlly thing I find fault with in with my box, besides the facgt that it's only 24 feet deep but I knew that when I bought it. The casters on mine don't seem to lock very solidly and I've read that it's an issue with those casters on some boxes.

other differences to look for are the KRL722 has 2 full length drawers and AFAIK, KRA's only have one full length drawer. Also, the KRL has chrome trim on the ends and on the divider that separates the 2 banks of drawers. Another observation I had was that the KRL's drawers open and close with less flex than the KRA. I'm guessing because it's a heavier drawer built with thicker material. Oh and the handle on the KRA is just a black bar. the KRL's have chrome ends with a black bar in between them

All in all, the 722 is a great box. Very solid and can hold a lot of tools. i'm personally thinking about upgrading to a deeper and longer box as mine is starting to get pretty full.

I have a classic 78, out of curiosity, besides the casters, what's the difference between my box and the KRL line?

Thicker gauge steel, tougher roller slides, the box sits higher, and has some "bling" items. The main difference being the thicker, heavy duty steel. KRL's are much heavier, sturdier boxes. But it also comes with a higher price tag.

Based on comments here it looks like a KRL 722. Hard to see but that must be two full width drawers at the top.

I'm pretty sure it's not a 722.The space on top doesn't have a handle. Looks like the one the KRL722 replaced...KRL761? I'm sure others here will know for sure.

just for comparison, here's my 722

That is either a KRL761 or a KRL7002. They look the same from the front view, the difference is the depth.

The KRL761 is the old version of the newer KRL722. It's 24" deep, and I don't know for sure but I don't think it had spring casters. The KRL722 has 11 drawers total - two long drawers. The KRL761 has 12 drawers total - one long drawer.

The KRL7002 is the old version of the new KRL7022. The KRL7002 is 30" deep, I believe this had spring casters.

Both are great boxes, I think they have been out of production for 8-10 years or so. There should be a sticker on the back with the model and serial number.

FYI, if you go to www.snapon.com and type in an obsolete part number, it automatically brings up the newest model. If you type in KRL761, it automatically redirects you to KRL722. Perhaps this is what the seller did, a similar issue has come up when people cut'n'paste for ebay listings.
