I know not to try to use self-adhesive VCTs on a concrete floor, but my local Habitat for Humanity outlet store has lots of self adhesive tiles for cheap ($10 / 30 sq ft). I was wondering if I could use the tile with a regular VCT adhesive?

I would not suggest doing it. It may stick at first, but not sure for how long. The self-stick adhesive on the back of the tile will act like a film preventing the regular adhesive from getting a good bite on the tile. Also, from what I've seen, the self-stick tile is much lower quality and much thinner than regular VCT. Usually the self-stick only has the pattern/color on the top layer while regular VCT is the same color throughout the tile.

FWIW, I used the self stick cheap-o tiles from Lowes on a floor in the Chicago area. I used floor jacks, parked cars, jack stands you name it. Spills of all types of fluids, snow melt (with salt), cold, hot you name it. It never once came up or peeled. It did look like **** after 4 years. The white was yellow, but it held up well. The concrete floor was about 30 years old too. I would never use it again though!

Nope. I never sealed it. It was straight from the box and on the floor. I can't believe it held up so well. It was kind of a joke actually. It was from Menards not Lowes now that I think of it. I remember that they were closing a store and moving to a new one. They were selling the stuff for pennies on the dollar. I think I paid something like $45 for 10 boxes of the things. I figured for that price, it was worth a try.!
