Vise Painting Questions

I've seen many nicely restored/painted vises here. So i thought I'd ask some questions before i start on mine.

How do you do a neat job of painting the lettering in a contrasting color to the vise?

Is there a trick, or just a small brush?

I'm planning on painting my vise in a hammertone finish, after cleaning and primer coat, all paint is rattle can, any pointers?

The trick is to paint the letters first.

Let's say you want orange letters and a black body. Simply paint the letters with your orange paint, first. Once that's dry, put tape over the letters and paint the rest in black.

When you remove the tape, voila!; orange letters/black body.

Mask them off? just paint the letters AFTER the rest of the vise is painted, saves a bunch of ******* about. Just find a decent brush & use a steady hand.

no need for that. go to any convenient store ask a pack of matches, best cheap touch-up brush you can get.

Yeah, I agree with others, that is back words for a vise with easy to paint raised letters.

The method you describe would probably work best for graphics or lettering on a auto body.

I used a Sharpie paint pen for this Columbian. Took about 5 min.

You can do it any way you want. In my experience, I've found the paint, mask, paint to create cleaner, sharper lines of color.

In a pinch, or if you're not as **** as I am, it'd be pretty quick and painless to paint, then touch up.

i used a toothpick and painted with that, worked reasonably well
