So after finding out that the Craftsman profesional full polish wrenches are made in China (I hate you China!) I decided to look at other sets. I am considering the 11 piece SK metric right now. Also I might wait for the $99 deal that Snap-On will have in about 6 weeks and buy the 7 piece wrench set. Any suggestions, thoughts or comments, thanks. Also this is my first post here, glad to find fellow tool nuts.

Check your Sears store. Mine had both sets (the build a set) Cman pro wrenches made in the USA. It's important to know that these sets aren't located on the shelves with the other wrenches, they are where the tool sets are, in my Sears right next to the 52 piece impact set.

The snap on set will be a good deal for the 99.00 though it will cost you some money if you need any of those sizes that the 7 pc is missing. Even for my 8mm wrench it was like 25$ and the price of the flank drive plus wrench singles is pretty outrageous.

Tool of the week seems to be Wright.

What are you working on and how often? The US made Craftsman Pro series were a bargain but I'd be concerned about replacement if you are a heavy user. Snap On sure does make a nice wrench, but you are gunna pay for it. Maybe Give SK a shot.

Always liked Williams.

I hear nothing but good things about Wright.

Stilling working the bugs out of the new SK line.

Snap-on will always be my favorite wrench. If you are going to keep the Craftsman set around until you can get the missing sizes, then the $99 sets aren't bad...

I just bought a 10pc Williams set, they're very nice, and a better deal then Snap On.
http://www.toolsdelivered.com/Williams-MWS-5A-Hand-Tools-Wrenches-Combination-Metric-Sets

I haven't used them extensively, but enough to know, the thick rounded beams make them VERY nice to use. I have SnapOn, Proto ASD, SK Superkromes, and Cman Pros....I much prefer the fat beam on the Williams. I had to take some brass fittings apart on my sandblaster last weekend and they didn't round over any of the brass fittings (I don't have metric line wrenches) that were pretty tough to break loose, happy so far.

I have a set of Wrights coming, I'll report in when they're in hand.

I work mostly on all three of are vehicles on a regular basis. I find I use my basic Craftsman wrench set alot to hold nuts down or break a bolt loose. I have always wanted to own some Snap On but the price is so high for not being a pro mechanic. SK seems like the front runner so far.

Another vote for Wright.

If you search for the comparison wrench thread (i think by Hiball), wright comes out the clear winner with the Wright-Grip wrenches.

Are you a pro or DIY'er? At the risk of incurring the wrath of my fellow GJ'ers, if you're an amateur the much maligned Craftsman raised panels will do anything you need, are made in USA and you get a lot more for your money. Just my $.02.

I have used many different wrenches over the years and I can say that I like the Snap on's the best. If you do buy the SK's I would suggest buying the long pattern. That extra length comes in handy. But if your going to pay $130 for those new, why not buy a used set of Snap on's for about 140

Just my .02

I stopped by my Sears store this afternoon and they at least half a dozen sets of teh CF Pro polished sets (9 or 11 wrench sets IIRC) made in uSA in both Metric and Std.
$59.99 reg price, Usually $39.99 on sale.

All the open stock polished they have is USA made too.

Hmmmmm.

I do own Snap-on wrenches and it's great. But only thing I hate is the grip. skinny edge hurts hand when applying some torque. I liked feel of MAC style wrench.

I'll check this out. I was so mad reading they are sourcing some stuff to China.

They have outsourced some stuff. I just bought this deep offset set:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00946999000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

and it was made in the US. The deep offset wrench sets in the stores are being replaced with Chinese product, however I noticed this was brand new from the factory and it's US made. Not sure why Sears is splitting it up like that though.

You have to do a little legwork with the Sears stuff but IMO it's still decent quality at a reasonable cost and produced in the USA. Hard to find these days bought new.

I bought the 43 piece raised panel set as well, personally, for the amount of time I use a wrench, I really don't need to be buying expensive wrenches. They are probably some of my least used tools. Ratchet, sockets, and screwdrivers are up there, wrenches...not really. Just a few specific circumstances.

At this point I have about $170 into wrenches, spanning from 6mm - 32mm and 1/4"-1-5/16", including those deep offset ones. Quite a bit of money for me, but think about how much a Snap-On set would cost you...

I'd like to add that the raised panel wrenches from Craftsman are an awesome value for general use stuff. I rarely use SAE stuff and most of my SAE wrenches are Craftsman. You can get pretty sick deals on them.

Which store is this at?

Western Hills store on Glenway Ave.

6000 Glenway Ave
Cincinnati, OH 45211-6318
(800) 366-0006
(513) 389-4300
tool dept.-direct (513) 389-4309
Was there just after 4pm to pick up some odds and ends.

I;d be happy to purchase and ship for price of tools and USPS flat rate box if anyone needs a set.

I was truly surprised they still had the USA COO sets. Should be 11 pc. sets. May be 9 or 13 as I just looked to confirm COO per this thread not the details, as I'm up to my a$$ in wrenches. It was the sets in teh grey or black plastic hang locked-up packaging tho and clearly polished and CF Pro.
The open stock for polished combos was USA as well or at least what stock they carry.

Funny but thier prices for some of the new Knipex stuff is = to or just a hair above chadstoolbox.com prices.

Hmmm.

The 7 pc wrench set will be offered in week 42 (this is week 33) and then in week 5 of 2012, the 7,8,9,18,19mm will be offered for $99.95. So you could end up with a 12pc Snap-on Flank Drive plus wrench set for $200

Pardon my math Chad, but the listed set you provide above is only 5 wrenches/pieces.

So the week 42 set is 7 pieces and the 2012 offering is 5 pieces?
If so, I gotcha.

SOEXM707 in week 42. 7pc metric wrench set

7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 18mm, 19mm wrenches in week 5. 5 individual wrenches.

7pc set + 5 individual wrenches = 12

At least it equals 12 based on the math that I am aware of.

how do i find a snap on dealer in my area ?

Good luck. I bought a lot of Snap-On when I was working in shops in the 1970's and early 1980's. Now that some of them are breaking/wearing out, I have a bag of tools in my car trunk, hoping some day to see a truck parked somewhere so I can exchange them. I have had this in my trunk for a year or more.
I can send them in for warranty exchange, but that doesn't let me wander through a truck and maybe buy something new.

how does warranty work for snap on? I like craftsman as you can go to any sears and just exchange it. I have done it once when I was a teen using regular socket to pop off Honda crank pulley and it broke.

I'm curious why craftsman pro wrench isn't as good as the similar snapon?

A little over $3,100

For the warrenty work ive had to do with them (not much) its similar to sears. If you have a wrench or socket that is broken they give you new. if you have something that is repairable they try to repair it, if it is beyond repair they give you new, if it is a power tool there are many options as they dont have the lifetime warrenty. You can sneak a lot more by the sears crew than the snap-on guy though.

I love my snap-ons, i find the slim profile is the most comfortable of the slim profiles yes a craftsman cross force feels better but i wouldnt trade the snap-ons for anything.

One thing Ive noticed, and I dont know if its all wrenchs or not. Is that when working in tight quarters where you can turn the fastener enough to re-engage the open end or you cant turn it far enough to re-engage the boxed end, you can flip the wrench from either from boxed to open or vice versa and one of the other will engage the fastener. Its a lengthy process but its just something I noticed the other day.

how do i find a snap on dealer in my area ?

You can call Snap-on Customer Service at 877-762-7664 OR you can go to the Snap-on Web site in the customer service section and fill out the online form requesting information OR you can do what I did... went to my local Ford dealer for an oil change (the dealer is cheaper than Valvoline Instant Oil Change and the dealer mechanics always put the correct fluids in the correct reservoirs :)) and asked the service advisor if the Snap-on truck stops by. The service advisor gave me the Snap-on Rep's name, phone number and told me what day he stops at the dealership.

Frankly I prefer doing Snap-on Internet orders. The stuff I want is almost always in stock and shipping is free for orders under $500.
