MartyO,

I don’t have a dog in this hunt but I will say that one of the USPS packages that I was waiting on from a member here took weeks to get from the North East (NJ or NY?) to Texas. Both the seller and I were growing impatient so I found on the USPS tracking site that I could send an email inquiring about my package. I sent an email detailing the tracking number, dates and details; the auto-reply stated that a PO employee would check into it and respond w/in 24hr. Fat chance. 12hr later the local PO clerk emailed me, located the package, and sent another email when it went out for delivery the next day.

The moral of my story is that if it shows to be received by USPS then it may still be on its way. Try inquiring through the tracking site.

This guy has mentioned having to sell a bunch of tools for some sort of emergency – I hope he’s alright and I hope this situation is resolved expediently.

+1 to this,I waited for almost 2 weeks to get a package from a trusted member of this site. The tracking # showed what you described,A dead end.Eventually the box showed up and everything was good.Just remember you only have 30 days to file a "item not received" claim with Paypal.Like others have said only send "gift" payments to highly trusted members like Franzdom.....

I am hopeful that it will show.

Although I sent him a chunk of money, I would rathyer have the tools than the cash.

I spoke to the Post Master in Broekn Arrow, OK where this fellow lives and he is trying to help me.

I understand that the fellow may be having personal problems, but he shipped without insurance (that was his choice) and he will not respond to e-mails and PMs. Just about everybody is wired full time these days, so I find it somewhat suspect that he is not responding.

So not having heard any response from metaldoglb, I started calling the local post office in Broken Arrow, OK, where the package was to be shipped from.

I spoke to the Postmaster several times and he was able to help me track my package down.

It seems that the tools were not well packed and were badly damaged in transit and the contents spilled out. This problem was compounded by the fact that there was no insurance on the package.

Here is what I received:

What I was supposed to receive:

The air ratchet seems to be intact (I have not seen it yet, my wife sent me pics from home). I am missing the socket holder and 4 sockets). Looks like I will have to do some shopping to replace those that I am missing.

The Postmaster said that because the package was not insured, I had no claim against USPS for reimbursement but that he would send a tracer on the missing sockets. I doubt they will show up but hopefully they will.

Meanwhile the seller has given me no communication, did a poor job packing, and should have insured the package.

The good news is that I love garagejournal and I have never had a bad experience with other members here.

Wow, there were only 7 shallow sockets in the tray shown for sale, and somehow you ended up with 10 shallows? and no deep sockets or tray? :headscrat

How did you get more shallows than he sent? LOL

At least he really sent them and wasn't trying to scam anyone.

I don't have many impact sockets outside of sets but I do have a few. Post what is missing and I'll see what I have. Probably Matco instead of Mac.

I'm glad to hear that at least some level of satisfaction was received. I've bought a bunch of tools here and hate to have to worry about getting screwed. I still hope that the seller is OK - but we'll all be a bit more careful.

Thanks to the Mods for letting this playout in the Classifieds.

Well, you are doing better than I am. Sent money, no tools and no communication from metalgodlb.

I have his address, do you?

No. Won't do me much good, however. I am out $67.13 ($65+ "pp gift fee"). Not worth flying halfway across the country and showing up on his doorstep or anything for that kind of $$ and can't file pp complaint due to gift option. He has had ample opportunity to respond to emails via several avenues.

uh, gift doesn't have any fee's associated with it. Sounds like you covered the fee's so could file a claim.

Didn't know if you wanted to drop a letter to him.

Hey sagriver, you need to contact the post office too. Maybe you'll get your stuff yet and possibly even a mac socket holder and a few extra sockets too.

MartyO, this is great news! Your diligence paid off! Hope the rest show up.

For you to have been charged a paypal fee using the gift/send money option, you had to have used your credit card to fund the payment. With that being said you might be able get your credit card company involved stopping payment. It can't hurt to look into it.

I am not the most savvy of internet users, but the extensions were $65. After I selected gift option, the cost increased to slightly north of $67, which I interpreted to be due to gift option. My pp acct is in fact linked to my cc, so i may be able to file a claim with my credit union. unfortunately, two days after this transaction, my cc was stolen electronically and i cancelled it (when it rains, it pours, huh!). I am waiting for a new card. Maybe I will wander back to the credit union and see what can be done when the dust settles wrt the new card.

As far as contacting the post office, not sure that will be useful. At least MartyO had a tracking #. After payment was sent, metalgodlb vanished. No indication he sent anything.

If someone has his phone #, pm me. I could try to give him a ring, but I am not hopeful. Oddly, therer was another member here that posted (I swear in this thread before it took off, and it could have been deleted) that he had not rec'd a refund from metalgodlb for some goods he purchased and did not receive. The member stated that he was filing a claim with paypal. I pm'd the guy relaying my experience, and never heard back.

This whole episode is strange and I wonder if the guy has it all together or not. Hope I am not flogging him for something catastrophic beyond his control If you cruise thru old posts, metalgodlb seemed to be an upstanding citizen both here and on ebay. Then he suddenly shorts a guy on ebay....sends one of two extensions, does a poor packing job on another incomplete transaction here, seems to sell other goods twice (previous poster I mentioned), then does not act in good faith on my transaction.

Finally, I want to thank all of you folks for your concern, advice and private messages. This is overwhelmingly a friendly and honest group!

The sockets I got from him were decently packed for a regular person. Like if a non-GJ-er packed them. Definitely below par for somebody hanging out around here.

I'm always amazed at how much care the average GJ seller takes in packing even cheap items  :D

Your CC was electrically stolen before you made the gift payment to paypal right? ;)

It was just a thought...

I am in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at least once a month on business.
If someone has his address, I would gladly cruise by his house or place of business and see if there is any activity.

Hi Folks:
I need to resurrect this thread to report a happy ending. Although Metalgodlb did not respond to follow-up emails after the purchase, he followed thruough and to my surprise I received the extensions over the weekend. The tray was trashed and almost a month after the purchase but in the big picture all is well as the important stuff arrived and is as picutred. Reason for the delay remains a mystery....hope all is OK with the seller.
Regards, Sagriver

Interesting.

I heard from him a week ago today, via PM in the middle of the night (I was up enjoying a bout of insomnia).

We traded a couple of PMs and he said he would make good on my nad trabsaction but it has been radio silence since then.

I hope he is doing better than he was and I hope he makes good on his promise to make good on my transaction with him. I did not report him through Paypal because he said he was facing hard times and I was hopeful that he would make good. We will see.

In the meantime, I am happy for Sagriver.

I purchased a set of 3/8 Matco sockets from him, payed gift through PP and didn't hear a word for over 20 days. I sent him PM's and gave him the benefit of the doubt until finally I filed a claim with my credit union and got my money back. I will never deal with this seller again. Thankfully this was the first and hopefully last time I get burned on this website.

Someone should remove his ability to list items for sale in our classifieds section.

That pretty much solves the problem.

I haven't noticed; is the vBulletin "Trader Rating" system turned on? That'd save everyone a bunch of trouble.
