This is the exhaust system I made for my LT1 powered MGB project. I want the car low so I needed to tuck the exhaust up into the car for ground clearance. The headers run into 2 1/2" tubes that run along side of the transmission. I had to make an ovalized 1 1/4" section to go under the clutch release mechanism on the bell housing. The pipes join into a 3" pipe which ovalizes to a 1 3/4" section to go under the Corvette center section. The lowest point of the exhaust is only 1/2" below the level of the unibody subframe at the lowest point.

Wow Jim! Thats a MAJOR exaust!
Being able to invert the car is a major bonus when it comes to making stuff for the under side. That's cool

Wo!:wtf:
I would of thought that they would of gone 4 into 2 per side and so on because of the distance to go.
That collector is cool. The firing order goes in a circular motion and is the reason for that unique sound I would guess also. Just wondering about how long the primaries would have to be? They probably reduce the diameter to make up for it. Most interesting.

Welding methods used were T.I.G and Oxy-Ace Nickel bronze brazing.

GSX-R 600 engine, FSAE is correct.

This frame was ridiculously rigid for 65lbs of mild steel. 1950ft-lbs/° comes to mind. Can be tough to achieve high numbers with an open cockpit car. The car built before that you could pick up a corner, and watch the relationship of the top of the front hoop and main hoop change almost an inch before you picked up the car! :p

I ended up doing all the welding, a good chuck of the pipe cutting, etc. for this car. The flat bottom was a huge benefit when it came to building and jigging.

Now ,something a little different.
Back in 94, I was involved in making a prototype and later a fleet of rental karts for Formula kartways in Toronto.
The problem was that they were killing kart chassis quickly renting them to the public for indoor use. (snows some here)
Built the first proto on site with the owners so they would be able to test and approve the final product.
They are built of 4130 alloy 1.125''dia. x .074'' wall tubing.Oddly enough, after more than 10 million laps each. The same chassis are still running today............:headscrat
I was counting on selling replacements......:(

The rolling prototype

These are a few of the tube projects I have done. I really need to get better at taking more pictures of finished projects. :(

My first header built back in 05. It turned out nice, I wasn't happy with the collector, but I learned a lot. The turbo manifold and down pipe I built and then ran successfully on my road race car. The front cross member was also on the Civic, it relocated the front pickup points, radiator and transmission mount, plus it weighed less than the stock piece. The cart is a project I built for the UAH softball team, it was designed for carry softballs out to the field. The half finished CRX roll cage was actually finished and sent on to the customer, I need to get more pics of it. The other car is an RX8 built to run in Grand Am.

There's some awesome projects in here from some talented people.

My baja project is stalled at the moment due to $$$. When I started it I only had a daily driver and it. Now we have a couple of jeeps and other stuff so I no longer want to make it street legal. I've pretty much decided to keep all the parts and just do a rail buggy. I've actually tried to sell the chassis but haven't found anyone interested in it at all. I hate to cut it up but I think I'm going to end up cutting it.

My integra fully stainless exhaust, downpipe, turbo manifold. Aluminum intercooler pipings. Etc etc.

But heres a picture of a ceramic coated, stainless headers i fabbed up. Could have been prettier on the welds, but 1 single thick root pass was my goal, instead of a root and cap. (not interested in welding a pretty pass)

I hadn't welded anything for about 20 years.

Bought a welder, opened the box and built this ladder rack the 1st day.

Used schedule 40 fire sprinkler pipe.

I 'load tested' it with about 40 20' 2X4's. Guess it will hold up to

the ladder I carry everyday.

Nastyzen, back in the day, did anyone use 4130 for chassis or fabricated parts ?

I wish i could come hang out at your shop and soak in some knowledge, you seem to have been around the block a few times when it comes to this stuff. I commend you sir, as what you do is a lost art.:beer:

4130 has been around for longer than me. The only thing about it is the price $$
Not affordable for all..... The American made Swift FF is often made up of 4130 and they are more difficult to repair because they are TIG welded and stiff as hell! The brazed ones are a breeze to fix.
Don't let the grey fool you, I'm only 46. Just lucky to have been exposed to this stuff early on.:D
Your more than welcome to come over and hang out. The rule is if your here more than 15 minutes during business hours. You are to pick up the broom and push it around while you soak it up.

Nastyzen- Do you have any more info or build pics of that #66 race car? I know NOTHING about those cars, but that "finished" pic knocked the wind out of me. Easily the sexiest roadster i've ever seen...

...think they'd let me take the wife out on a date in it?

More info and pics on this. That looks really cool.

Hi Brett I don't really have more pictures It is 6061 aluminum Ix2 tubing I drilled it out for weight savings it has rear suspension the shock is made from rubber disks separated with delrin washers.

I tig welded the frame but I did not have a way to heat treat the frame so over time it started stress cracking.

I got into carbon fiber fabrication after this bike, much stronger and a lot less design constraints.

The suspension sounds like the early TREK rear elastomer suspension. How long before the stress cracks showed up? Any lateral stiffness problems?
