Found a freebee Carolina Tool and Equipment CBP1200 shop press. About late 1980's vintage. Tag says 50 Ton.
This is a manual pump hydraulic with levers for high and low pressure.

There are no external leaks but when pumping in high pressure it does not seem to have the umph it should.

I looked on the Carolina web site but they don't make these anymore. I am looking for ideas as to what could be wrong and manuals or parts.

Did you Pull the High Side Pump Piston? My guess would be that the seal is compromised.

I did not. Would I have to drain it to be able to evaluate the seal?

No.. The pump piston is on top of the resevoir, just remove the handle assembly and you should be able to pull it out. It might have a shoulder that prevents it from coming out, if so unscrew the pump cylinder.

What is your definition of "omph" the Hi pressure piston will move things Slowly, that is the trade off of high to low pressure. if you get pressure, does it seem to bleed down at the pump lever?

Is the seal down at the bottom? There is an o-ring that seals the piston around the top. I can't see the bottom because of the fluid.

Mr. Outlaw (sir), the movement seems normal. I can't 'deadhead' the high side like I can the low. Feels like it is leaking by internally(?).

Did you pull the piston completely out? If its just Piston with No seal on the tip, It either utilizes a Rod Seal in either Oring/Rod cup Seal inside that sits inside a Groove. You will probably have to drain the fluid to see how many grooves/type of seal thats inside. I highly doubt the one at the top is the Main seal. Just pull them out and check them for Pliability, Cracks etc..

There is no seal on the tip of the piston. I pulled the fluid out and can see what looks like a plunger at the bottom of the well. No seals are visible. Is there a trick to getting this apart? Magnet did not have enough strength. The well is 1/2" diameter and 7" deep.

I guess I'm SOL on repairing this. The pump is all welded and I can get a spring and a ball out of it, but I cannot even see inside to tell if there is some kind of seal.

I called Carolina and was told that this style 'imported' pump was discontinued 4 years ago and they have no parts or drawings.

They sell a complete USA replacement pump for $280.

Here are some pics of the bottom. The elbow connects to the ram cylinder.
