Somebody must be.

Do they really think it will be "a sought after collectable". I have watched for several weeks many Snap on items with his and his fathers name on it at crazy high prices go unsold on Ebay. I have even seen some screwdrivers and ratchets that were 10 years old, photographed as if they were in a "Shrine". The older I get the less I understand people.

Here is Snap on's newest. Snap on - Ted Nugent Box While I like Uncle Ted. The Ted Nugent (Spirit of the Wild) version of the Snap on box actually makes me think it is worth even less (Are those Rhinos?)

I'll admit that I bought one of the #8 DE Jr. hard plastic ratcheting screwdrivers a year or two back. I USE mine though. It is white with red and a lot of stains across the white. I got mine so I could identify it apart form everyone else. Everyone at my job uses those screwdrivers (all of theirs are green or red).

Plus I got a nice collectors tin with it. I gave it to a big Dale Jr fan.

To each his own, but to me all that kind of stuff is gimmicky and generally a passing fad; someone must think the stuff is great though cause they just keep on crankin it out!

p.t. barnum would be proud

No kidding. I do not like commemorative anything. And no offense to anyone, but Dale Jr - hell, even Dale Sr - are not deities. And neither is Ted Nugent. He can play a couple country/bluesy licks, but let's face it - it was the 70s and he was in the right place at the right time.

Where x = %age chance a man ever uses his tools and y = the number of limited edition tools he owns:

x = (1/yz)x100

where z = 50 if that man shows fanatical obsession with one manufacturer and/or Ebayitis (the Merkava constant)

:spit: I can't tell you how many time I've needed to camouflage my tool chest so I could fling an S936 at a passing Rhino.

Strikes me as similar to the "Craftsman '**' Year Anniversery Collector Edition" sets...

Why?

Do not pay premium for them. But if priced right and a workable tool (not gold plated type) will buy them.

They work best where they stand out and make it easy to ID your tools.

If I bought this F836, it would just be because I like the royal blue handle; not because it said Dale Earnhardt on it. I've seen some MAC XR8PA's on eBay with a black handle and someone's name on the handle. Again, I'd buy one of those for the black handle; not for the person's name on it.

By the way, that white embossing wears off quite quickly with a little bit of use; so after awhile, it would just be an F836 with a pretty blue handle.

That is a great looking ratchet; and as you said once you wear that name off it will be perfect! :pimpflash

Buffalo. Not that that makes it any less gay. Those boxes would have to be heavily discounted for me to buy one. Might as well paint it pink with rainbows and unicorns.

My wife might like a pink with rainbows and unicorns to keep her kitchen tools in it....

Dale Jr & Dale Sr...... whodat??????????:lol_hitti

If this **** didn't sell, they wouldn't manufacture it. The people represented are getting a royalty on the products, so it must make sense to the marketing people. I doubt that they produce a lot of these items, but the up-charge / premium must make it worthwhile from a business standpoint. Just like all the people that buy Red Sox's, Bruins, and Patriot's tee shirts, hats, and other paraphernalia.

I think that camo Nugent box is ugly too. I think a bunch of giant Marshall amp stacks framing the drawers would be much better.

I guess the people who are considered FANatics buy the stuff. I have seen Nascar themed tool chests in a dealership I worked at and it wasn't even in the south. In fact they were at opposite ends of the shop because, they didn't like each other's driver. Anyway, it's just another branch of the sports marketing business like hats, tshirts, and jackets. Only these are much more expensive.

The DE box, not for me. The TN box, not for me. Now, if they put out a Ferrari/Michael Schumacher box, I would think VERY hard about buying it. If it were more Ferrari than MS then I would absolutly buy it! Powder it Ferrari red (The old red not the new "Kimi" red) with the prancing horse on it.....SOLD.

I would love an Aston Martin themed box too. I have no idea if they would ever increase in value. They sure would be cool to have though! I have a small Porsche emblem on my Stainless box as well as the 740i emblem from the rear of my crashed 2001. I'm not much for decorating boxes but sometimes it okay.

Okay... you got me. As much as I detest commemorative junk, I would seriously consider something like that. Of course, it would be filled with FACOM tools (the Schumacher era) or current Beta tools.

I work with an Earnhardt freak. He's got the lunchbox......cooler.....hats....keychains .......bumper sticker...... underwear (so he says)....I saw him pay well over $200 for a set of 3....( dats right..3! ) Earnhardt wrenches in a wooden box that had Ralph, Dale sr. and Dale Jr's name on them. I buy my **** to use. He bought a Harley Davidson box for an "investment". Damn thing sat in the corner in the factory box for 2 years before he traded it in for a welder.

Whatever blows ya skirt up I guess...:pimpflash

way back when I bought the harley davidson snap on box. of course I bought it used for $800 and I really liked the burgandy color
I also bought the snap on 75th ratcheting screwdriver. bought it for same price as the standard one and the gold plating has never negativly effected the usability.
