Picked this thing up to go on my DW717 for less than $40 on Amazon.

Arrived today and took less than 5 minutes to install.

I love this thing, it's dead-nuts accurate. Unlike the LED Laser units, this uses a single, large LED to cast a shadow of the blade on the board you're cutting. That shadow shows exactly where the kerf of the blade will be.

Anyway, love this thing. If you have a DeWalt miter saw, the LED worklight is a must-have.

LED housing mounted to the blade housing.

What the worklight gives you with the blade up.

Fire up the saw and start moving the blade down and you can start seeing where the kerf will be.

Get closer and the shadow becomes more defined.

Closer still.

Since the LED worklight has an independent on/off switch from the blade, you can also move the blade down without having the saw running. This will help with positioning material - especially when you're in a situation where you've marked the correct angle without needing to measure. Just adjust the miter and, when it's right, cut.

Cutting a piece of 2 3/4" material vertically against the fence. Shadow of the blade is much more defined at the top and diminishes as it progresses to the bottom. Not an issue since the cut will start at the top of the piece.

Anyway, when I researched this thing (saw on all of the DeWalt saws that it would accept the LED Laser or LED worklight) I couldn't find a single piece that gave a somewhat detailed description of this unit.

Hopefully someone will find this later.

No idea about that post, kar. I think it's actually a tool of some sort. It lifts out of the holder in the switch assembly, but it's not mentioned in the manual...and I scoured the manual more than once looking for an answer.

So, for now, it remains a mystery. *cue creepy music

No problem. Glad this helped.

This requires NO setup or adjustment - unlike a laser. What's great is that when you change blades, the shadow of that blade will be cast onto the workpiece. This will show you exactly where the kerf will be regardless of blade thickness.
