a cabinet above the workbench to put above listed items in. cabinets are better than pegboard because they keep things out of grinding dust/ sawdust's way.

if you do anything dangerous, a phone with 911 on speed dials
I once read that it hard to dial for help with a badly cut hand.

Hate to be a downer, and hope no one here ever needs it.

I think in those same lines- except the coffee pot.
There's a place for everything, and everything has a place! It just not hanging all around the workbench- or covering 50% of it! (Yeah, it means I hate Peg board!) I love cabinets, drawers, and Toolboxes (I guess that why they call them that).

All of the above except the TV....what ***** watches a tv whilst they are working ?
I accept that not all garages are for working on stuff but a tv is for sitting down and watching so why not do that in the house ?

Sometimes it's more of a background noise, when there's nothing good on the radio. . . .friday nights when they play HS football or Sunday mornings. . .talk radio.

Yeah, I used to have a little TV in my old place, in the woodworking shop (Don't have cable now)
Remember used to watch little house on the prairie, I was off Mondays.
That was only when I was using hand tools though.

Other than tools (see, I can read ;)), a phone.

Whoops. That's a communication tool.

To answer the question accurately takes some thought as even a pencil is a tool.

I guess it boils down to beer. And bandaids.

Ear protection/gun mufflers
Full-face shield
Can with several Sharpie markers (on shelf above bench)
Razor blade
Rulers/tape measures (technically a tool, but gotta have em for nearly everything)
PB Blaster
WD40
Bug Spray
Brake Kleen
Paper Towel roll on a holder

+1 for the TV

I spend at least a whole Saturday or Sunday in my garage. Often, the whole weekend.

I have a small LCD TV on one of my Gorilla racks. I sometimes tune into a college or NFL game if I'm stuck in the garage and not able to relax in the house in the Lazy Boy.

I often find myself putting on a hockey game or something while I'm in the garage. Especially if I'm just cleaning for the day. Nothing I actually need to pay attention to but something other then music and power tool noise is nice once in a while.

I built 2 shallow drawers for under my main bench to keep small items handy. One has all types of measuring devices, calipers, micrometers, tape measures, scales, etc. The other has pencils, pens, markers, scissors, razor blades, utility knives.

Anyone notice that those who list beer as 1st or 2nd in the needed also have a lot of band aids and first aid items on the list? Coincidence?

Actually, thatnks for the thread. I'm getting ideas of what to add to my own list. Minus the beer, that stays out back by the pool.

+1 for 99% of the things that have been listed above and add some graph paper, ruler and pencil.

Even the TV is important.

I spent yesterday afternoon putting up racking/workbench then unpacking boxes of tools and equipment in my new garage while I listened to the Bathurst 1000 on the TV.
If I'd only had the TV in the house I would have missed all the action and the awesome last lap.

I know, we're all such a bunch of reckless twits with barely 3 fingers per hand.

Red rosin paper. Comes in a 3' wide roll. Heavy red paper, inexpensive, and can be rolled out for a variety of jobs. Absorbs spills well. Drawer liners. Cut off a piece and fold the edges up about 1/2 inch when disassembling anything with small parts. I roll off about a 2' piece when I'm cleaning guns. Little solvent and oil spills soak right up. Leave the patches and swabs on the paper, roll up and trash when done. Many other uses.....available at most box stores and lumber yards.
