Very reluctantly stopped into Sears this past weekend to pick up a replacement 12 adjustable wrench for mine that had gone missing (I think stolen) from my home garage. I usually try to avoid Sears anymore for tools, but I still have a high regard for the Cman adjustables. While I was there I noticed that they are now carrying a fair selection of Knipex pliers in the store. I have always seen a large selection of Knipex tools in the Sears catalog only, but only ever saw the alligators and Cobras pliers in store sold under the Cman brand name.

Looks like Knipex is really expanding to get their pliers out there. Lowes stores still sells them, now Sears in store too.

I own 2 older pairs of 10 inch Cobra pliers and a newer pair of their 8" dykes. I agree they are a very tough high grade tool and very nice to use. When it comes to pliers I've always been very partial to Channellock and that's mostly what I own and use, but I do love the few Knipex tools that I own. Just hope that them expanding their market doesn't mean that their quality is sacraficed in the process.

Sears started carrying Knipex in stores in early spring of 2011.

The selection is somewhat limited but is an awesome move.

They are not carrying the Cobras in the stores as to not compete with teh Craftsman branded pliers that are identical.

They have a phamphlet that lists what they carry. As for price, it not quite as cheap as online prices, but lower than most mom and pop prices or full on local tool supplier prices.

Cobras are the best pliers i have owned...period. I have the truck brands, channelock, and others. The Cobras are by far the best!

IMO they are far better than the truck brand pliers as well. Did they have a lot of comfort grip/regular/both?

hands down best pliers available!

Fixed it for you... :bounce:

IMO they ARE the best pliers for sure. Once you get used to the Cobras they are so much better than regular tongue and groove pliers it's not even funny.

The Craftsman IS a Knipex Cobra, just black with black/red grips and says Craftsman... my store has the regular Knipex Cobras as well.

Knipex are a superior tool! All the tool trucks I buy from sell them now. The Snappy guy by me talked them down for quite awhile now he sells them too. Wire cutters hold their edge very well and the needle nose pliers don't distort their tips with heavy abuse.

Based upon Sears printed literature and what I have seen in stores, they are only carrying the std. grips and NOT any comfort grips.

If your Sears is carrying Cobra's they must be doing it on thie own as they are not listed in the Knipex/Sears co-produced literature.

I have not tried the automatic adjust version, but I have used my two pairs of 10 inch Cobra waterpump pliers for a while. They will adjust to a maximum of 2 1/4 inch jaw width capacity. However the V-jaw shape and V size just seems to better grip and fit roundstock or hexigonal fitting upto about 1 3/8 to about 1 1/2 inch diameter best. I find them to be a very useful and durable hand tool.
