Anybody recommend a good quality sheet metal shear, either electric (preferably) or pneumatic? Just need a set to do some cutting every now and then, won't be used everyday, but i'd still prefer a decent quality pair. Thanks!

Flame suit on. I bought the $29 pneumatic shears from Harbor Freight to cut the metal ceiling panels in the garage. Wasn't expecting a whole lot, but they have worked great. Can't remember the model #.

+1 on the HF shear. I think they stole the design from the Kett P500. Did a pretty good job too.

I have a porter cable elec shear that has worked perfectly for 25 yrs & will probaly last forever. Not cheap but there is not so much value to tools that have to be replaced & didnt work as well as the better ones during the time you used them. These are not cheap but in my opinion worth the cost.bill wallace

I have a "napa" air shear. It is nothing special. Frequently cutting aluminum, on a regular basis. God only knows how old it is or who made it. Think the blades may have worn out as you gotta play with the trigger a bit to get it cutting good.

It is company provided, and honestly doubt it has been oiled more than a handful of times.

I'm in the verge of ordering this one. It's not on stock but I'm in no hurry and can wait.

Any additional feedback about this tool?

I emailed Kett and was informed this is Made in Cincinnati, OH

Thanks

I've used and own that style (Not sure if it is Kett or not...) and they do fine for flat sheet stock, What they will not do well with is trying to go over seams and such. (Good way to damage or break a blade)

I have an Ingersoll Rand 7812G pneumatic shear. I've only used it once to cut a single 22 gauge sheet. Probably 1 minute use at most. I don't have the original box though. Willing to sell it if anyone is interested:

I personally rather have electric because I 99% of the time, I never need to use a shear. If i ever do need it, it'll probably be much quicker for me to plug the electric cord into the wall than waiting for the compressor to fire up.

I have both the IR 781G and the HF shears i wore out the blades on 12ga sheet metal which is was NOT designed for, the HF cutting head fits my IR body so it was a cheap "blade replacement"....

I own the Matco MCL18PS power shear. It uses an 18V Litium Ion battery and flat out beats any Pneumatic shear I have used over the past 25 years. A buddy of mine uses the Bosch unit "Monte" posted. Great tool as well

The motor looks like Dewalt and is most likely not made in USA...

You know, I have the 110 volt corded version of that, made by Bosch and I bought it for 20 quid (far too cheap to say no to) about 18 years ago and I don't think I've used it once.

hey for about 1 buck per year still a good deal :)

Can't trust manufacturer's response now a days anymore. I emailed Sioux and asked where a particular die grinder was manufactured and they replied straight forward : Japan. I ordered the tool and received a Made in Taiwan. Well charge to experience.

I'm taking Ketts USA Made email response with a grain of salt unless members here confirm that the Kett KD-440 is indeed Cincinnati OH built.

I think Kett makes the cutter head only. My 30 year old shears have a B&D motor. Still a great tool. I would highly recommend these shears.

The price was low for the "japanese" grinder though ......
