When I try to search GJ it’s a pain!! GJ does not allow you to narrow search parameters down very well. For example I want to find info on a G73 heater. So I go to the "heating and a/c" forum click on search this forum, type in G73 and this is what I get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." I don't think it likes short one word, so now I type in "G73 heater" It likes that but I don't! Now I get everything that has “G73” or “Heater” in the forum, well I am in a heating forum so it’s just about going to give me the whole darn forum! The following are a few of what I get… that has nothing to do with a G73 electric heater! Which vent cap, Is my Mr. Heater running right? Galvanized pipe in the gas line...., No ventilation ?, Anybody using Clean burn waste oil furnace, Need advice on running gas line, Radiant Heat Water?? And so on and so on…. Ok now I type in “G73 electric” again I get thousands of post and only a few to do with the “ G73” but what I do get is: Vapor barrier with house wrap, Wood Stove Heat Exchanger , Waste Oil Boiler To Heat Shop AND House???, wood stove , Pellet furnace vs wood furnace and so on and so on thousands more nothing to do with the G73 heater. This forces me post a question that most likely has been covered a million times before due to sucky search restraints! Can anyone help me/others out???? :headscrat

Another google option/syntax is to add the web site you want to search; syntax is your normal google search followed by "site:xxxxx.***"

copy and paste the following to google...

g73 heater site:garagejournal.com

The GJ search function doesn't seem to work for words or phrases that are three letters or less. The Google search Bull suggested will work better for that sort of thing. Also, the advanced search function seems to work better than the quick search, if nothing else you can limit the search to a particular folder (in this case the Heating and A/C section.)

thanks for the info guy's but don't you think this is a hard way to search. You have to open another tab go searching google when GJ has its own search function. Maybe Admin. could jump in here... why can't GJ just make it so you can search for the example "G73" ?

I think it's a function of the software, not necessarily anything that GJ can do about it. I've noticed the similar issues on other boards that use the same software.

As mentioned go to advanced search, select heating and a/c and type in "G73 HEATER" (make shure you add the quotes " "). I get two pages worth of G73 info.

An easy way to look at it is this:

GJ runs on a software designed solely to help people communicate effectively. As an afterthought, a search function was designed into the software.

Google is designed solely to help people search for relevant things.

Kind of along the lines of using the right tool for the job.

Yes Dave and thank you for the tip it does help some, and what I mean by some yes it gave me two pages too, but don't you think there should be many more than two pages for the "g73 heater". I'll try this tip with something else.
