Hi RED.

I was looking for some ideas for my own garage project and happened upon this post. I have read over it a few times. First let me congratulate:thumbup: you on your baby.
Next your garage build is very impressive as are the people who are commenting on your Thread.
I have been building my Project, a Honda Bobber for the last 3 years. but due to commitments to work and family, things pertaining to garage hobbies have a way of making it on the back burner.
That said I will have some time this winter to work on my Garage. I have built a work bench and shelves. I was looking for some ideas to pull and have found so many ideas on the garage Journal.
I am writing on this thread to you because it was your thread that made me join this Group. I hope to post my own pics soon.

Very cool keep up the great work man!
:canada:

Attila thank you for your very kind words - they are most appreciated! To be honest I feel like a bit of a slacker right now on the garage stuff since I haven't had a major, major update for quite a while now.

That being said, I'm planning to use Christmas break to finally start construction on my work bench. It is desperately needed.

I would highly encourage you to start a thread here - you will get a ton of ideas and very helpful suggestions!

Kudos, featured on GJ. What an achievement! You deserve it, though. You've done a fantastic job.

BTW, after our discussions on the DJ saw, I picked up a DJ table saw arbour bracket assembly to modify to see if my ideas will work. No, wait. To demonstrate that my ideas will work. So, if you happen by any barrel nuts that are spares in your searches, keep me in mind.

Dave.

...looks like Wingnut65's radio was featured on the GJ homepage!

Wow, that's awesome! Although, I'm a little embarrassed (the cool polished trim and decals for the front plate haven't even been done yet)

Still...Thanks GJ!!!!!

Wait...Wonton? Right?

Hey!!!

I will absolutely keep that in mind! You keep me in mind if you stumble across an old, neglected, orphaned Darra James with a Craftsman badge:D

Well Congrats on the first page Dave . " I'm glad someone mentioned it as I seldom go to the front page " . I usually come straight to the forums and unless Ryan mentions something about it I dont go to the front page .

Thanks all!

I need to hurry up and get some decals and trim on those shelves!!!

After that, I want to get some insulation up on the inside of the garage door.

First Jeff did it, then Jack...I gotta get on the bandwagon while the gettin's good!

My plan is to bust out the workbench this winter so I have somewhere to store projects instead on other tools (starting to really dislike that!)

btw - if you stick around tonight, I may have a real fun update later (unrelated to the surprise update tomorrow)

It took a couple hours, but it was time well spent reading probably the best thread in GJ so far!

RL, thanks so much for your inspired build you've shared with us, the detours through the vintage machinery, and most importantly, your new family addition. Keep up the fantastic work, which I hope inspires many.

Way to go Dave!

And Thanks to Ryan for posting such a cool shot. That is just a picture of Teamwork! Glad I could help out.
And, Kudos to the photographer!

Now that it is Friday, can you go ahead and post info on that new old Table Saw that you are adding to the stable? You keep talking about them and helping others that the bug just got you too much that you had to add another one to the shop. Although the Planer idea may have some validity....

Congrats on the good press! Now get that floor down and you might be able to make the jump to super-elite movie star status...GJ style of course.

Red Leader you do outstanding work! The pictures are great. Love the garage design and restoring of the old shop machinery with writeups/photos. Looks like were geographical neighbors as well. Keep up the good work

Congrats on the cover shot Dave!! That's quite an honor! You deserve it.

I have no idea on the 'R' and 'L' surprise but I think GIAG might be on to something. And now another tease? Yer killin' me:).

Man, I go out of town for a few days and BAM - RL's place is on the front page. Good job and well deserved! That will make some nice framed art to put up on the wall of fame

Keep up the good work!

Really Awesome job. I like how you went the extra mile to use vintage switchplates. I noticed that you have a homecraft scrollsaw. I picked one up for free a few weeks ago in the metal scrap pile at my local town dump. It works!

That's a nice little 6" Craftsman planer, also known as the 'alien' planer:)

The one I'm keeping my eye out for is this bad boy:

By daveamy at 2011-06-05

I'm looking for the Craftsman-badged version of this one. I've read of some discussions of them, but they must be pretty rare, as I have never even seen a legitimate photo of a Craftsman-badged one out in the wild. However, finding one isn't the real battle. Having the budget for one, and the floor space...well I don't know how I would do it.

But, if I actually found one, I'm not sure how I wouldn't, either:D

There is a planer basically the same as that in the woodshop at my school. There is a duct on the top of the planer for dust collection and the switch is different but otherwise it is the same.

Everybody...

First of all, THANK YOU to all for your super kind and generous comments about the garage. It is a huge work in progress and it is your encouragement that helps to keep me going! You are very much appreciated!

Secondly, I apologize of the lack of a timely response, especially since I told everyone there would be an update on Friday. We left for a family trip and I didn't have time to do a full write up, so sorry for leaving everyone hanging!

However, I will be working on the update tonight. It will be good. Tinbender had it right - there are actually 2 separate updates. Stick around tonight if you'd like. I promise it will be good:D

Glad to be back!

Well quick update - I can't find my camera cord so I'm trying to figure out what to do here.

Stand by...

EDIT: Rats, can't find it. I'll snag the card reader from work tomorrow (works better that way anyway).

Dave I think this is most of the reason I have taken to using my crackberry for all my pics . I have a card reader built into the laptop out here so I take the pic . Then simply pull the card from the phone , stick it into the adapter and stuff it in the laptop . No cables to loose .
