All,

I have a 1959 190sl Mercedes Benz which has limited truck space for tools. As result, can anyone suggest a good Metric socket set that contains 6 and 12 points. I currently have a 178 piece Sears set which I only use half of the set with my car.

Thanks,

Rich :headscrat

Make your own....

Get a decent hand box and buy "sets" of sockets and get your favorite ratche, extensions, a swivel etc.

make your own set. only put in it the actual sizes that will work on your car. often a car will only need 4-6 sockets to do most of what you need.

It is against several unwritten laws to touch a Mercedes with any other brand of tool except Stahlwille or maybe Hazet.:bounce:

I don't know if Fedwrench was joking, but I actually agree with this!

That's a sweet ride, so be a purist here... In fact, I'd try to get a replacement for whatever the original kit included and add tools from the same manufacturer if necessary.

Got any pics of the car ?

I agree with the above, make up your own set to suit, don't carry round tools you'll never use. The originals were Gedore, so you could possibly make up a set to reflect that. A period tool wrap, for your drive tools, would be a nice touch $25

I would even though not correct get a good quality German set. Stahlwille, Facom, Gedore, Hazet. Not in that order but you get the idea.

Are you sure? The photos at the site above suggest Dowidat... And I'm pretty sure some Mercedes tools were by Heyco.

You're right, I thought the split between Dowidat and Gedore (Gebrüder Dowidat Remscheid) was later, but I was mistaken. It turns out Willi went off on his own in '49.

Stanley owns them now so it is tiawan!!!! lol

That's not funny. Luckily, it's not entirely true either (yet).
