Are these KRL boxes the right price?

I have had about 3 boxes in the last month sold out from under me. I am getting sick of it, all three times I called the sellers from work, agreed on a price and pick up time, then when I got off it was sold. There are a few KRL boxes close to me up for sale. I like the 14 drawer Cranberry box's layout better than the 11 Drawer layout I am used to seeing in that size of KRL. Am I just used to seeing the KRL1022 and the 14 drawer version is the KRL1001 or did he custom order the extra drawers. Thanks!

One at $2,000 that appears to be in typical condition for a working box.

Yeah I hate the BS sellers on CL. I noticed a nice vintage aircraft mechanic roll around last week and I emailed the seller and explained I could not drive to him to pick it up until Weds. but I would take it for sure consider it sold. He replies telling me to send a money order to his house for it. (that's kinda odd) I tell him even if I did that it wouldn't make it to his house by Weds. lets just shoot for Weds. in person. I have the cash, I'm a serious buyer consider it sold. Guy emails back and says okay no problem.
The guy emails me Tues telling me someone is coming over to possibly buy it that night.
I email him back telling him I thought we already made plans and squared the deal away. He says he'll email me if the other guy backs out.
I emailed back and said take whatever he offers you because I'm no longer interested.
He emailed back saying I should have sent him a money order. I didn't even reply.
Seriously I'm going to mail a complete stranger $500?

Those boxes are priced about right provided they work as they should and are clean. Course on CL most folks have a little wiggle room. If you are within driving distance of Baltimore, I have several boxes in stock that may save a few $'s for you and are clean and ready to go.


To the folks who are bitching about CL people not holding products for you, I side with the sellers. Too many people will say they are coming and never show up. Happens most of the time and I don't sell on CL. Heard too many stories. I buy a lot off CL and the only way I expect someone to hold something for me is when I am leaving to pick it up and its an hour drive or so, I expect them to hold it for that amount of time. And if they say they won't, I ask them to call me if it sells before i get there. When you are selling, you sell to the guy who has the money and gets there first. There are some exceptions, like you have bought from the seller before or have established a relationship over the course of several phone calls. It is sad that too many wannabes have ruined the credibility of serious buyers like those above who are complaining, but that is the world we live in. Another exception is knowing someone through a forum like this but trusting a complete stranger to come in a couple of days to buy something is just too risky for the seller.

NO, but that same complete stranger is supposed to take your word that you will be coming to pick it up AND paying what he wants for it, meanwhile turning other buyers away who have cash in hand and are there before you!!

+1. I'll hold it for a few hours, until a guy can get off work. But I make it clear that he's got 30 minutes grace. If he's not there by 30 minutes after he said he would, and I haven't heard anything, it goes to the next person who shows up with cash in hand.

Only way I'd hold an item for a few days is if it's a low-demand item. Something I've been re-listing for a week or more trying to get sold and this guy is the first call on it.

The OP has a point. If you're selling on CL and the guy who calls says he's coming to pick it up after work, and you say ok, turning around and selling it before he can get there isn't classy. Don't you want to sell to people you know have jobs, and therefore money?

Yes, CL and "classy" aren't hand-in-hand and caveat emptor and all that but come on, the guy isn't asking you to hold it for three days. A few hours won't kill anyone. Heck, if you're the seller and you've agreed to change hands in a few hours, and in the meantime other people call asking to buy, doesn't that indicate you'll have no problem getting rid of it?

It's one thing to tell the OP "if it's still available, it's yours" and another to agree to hold it for a few hours, then turn around and sell it. Again, it's the law of the jungle on CL but that works both ways; pull that stunt on the wrong person and you might wish you hadn't.

Many of you are skipping over the part where the seller agreed to hold it and we made a plan for Weds.
If he said no I won't do that then whatever but make a plan and then flake out on the buyer is just as bad as a seller that flakes and never shows up in my opinion. It's a two way street and the screwing goes both ways.

I had made plans to have a truck and cleared time to drive the 3 hours to pick it up from the guy. Ya it must be MY fault because I cleared didn't foresee that CL sellers are a bunch of greedy a-holes that don't give a **** about their word.

I called him less than 4 hours after it was posted (5 a.m.) and explained to him I work 12 hour shifts in a prison (6 a.m.-6 p.m.) and I could not simply leave for a minute to pick it up, and that I would be there at 6:30 p.m. at the latest with his asking price in cash. Seller agreed. As of my lunch at noon everything was still on. Got to the locker room at 5:45 and had a text, "box sold." It would have been different if I told him I want to look at it or check it out, but we were clear on the fact I was buying it. That is the difference Toolhorder and I are pointing out.

I would agree the seller should have waited unless he said first come first served in his add.

i agree its crummy but you need to expect it. Cash on the spot speaks volumes to someone who needs it. Perhaps he had someone come to just look at it and instead they came cash in hand or even had a higher offer right there on the spot. If i needed cash i'd probably take it too. Its craigslist. Not a store.

Keep in mind there is indeed a flip side to this argument, which is far more common, where people make deals and then pull no shows. As a seller do you take the cash you may or may not get or the cash you're staring at?
