WOW! Now I might have gotten behind that deal. You could probably get most of your money back by selling one of them. thats what I would do anyway.

Unless you are in a big garage with several other techs and you feel the need to pad your ego or "show off" buying expensive tools and tool boxes from ********, Mac, or what ever "high end brand" plus you are making an absurd amount of money, go right on. If you are like 99% of the average joes out there making a living, going into massive debt like that is STUPID, period.

Hey thats a good point, If you spend allot of money on a tool, you are less likely to lend it or loose it so it will more likely be there for a long time. so it costs you less in the long run.
NO you may not borrow my tool box! So what if I have two, You still cant borrow it!

Here's what I see at work. The guys that have snap-on (generally) have pretty small and older boxes. When they upgrade, they almost never get a snap-on. They end up with craftsman/waterloo/kennedy/etc. A few have a mac box that's long and skinny that runs about $3500, which I think is a nice box. There are quite a few of the largest Craftsman Pro's offered, like mine.

This was my experience as well, when I worked in the trade. The mechanics generally don't make enough money to afford expensive boxes. Its the people who don't have mechanics salaries that can generally afford these high end boxes.

I could only afford a $3500 box in my second career.

I saw one once! It was a great big beautiful red mobile Lista at Consolidated Metals in Fresno. Two large chrome handles on the side. It was just outside of the engineer's office and I think it belonged to the business; I don't think it was an employee's box. Flat out gorgeous. :)

There's one at work. It was a decent price, about the size of my craftsman pro, price was $1800. My gripes are that the drawers don't latch, have the pegboard type holes in the bottom, and they are all full width. It's very well built, however. I also believe you can get them with split drawers, it just ups the price.

I've also noticed about 5 of the International boxes at work, now that I know what they are. I never paid attention to them before.

What do you mean by "latch"? What's wrong with the holes?

Just trying to get some feedback...

As far as I know, it has to be locked for the drawers to stay shut when moving it, pet peeve of mine. Holes...nothing really wrong, just doesn't seem right for a toolbox. I would line all of the drawers and not worry about it.

The craftsman pro "lift latch" latch mechanism is similar to the cornwel tool box latch system. I like this design since the drawer can be opened by lifting the inside of the any where on the handle. Unlike ******** where you have to grab one area and slide the lock mechanism over to open it.

And no, never lost any body's ratchet. And that is another reason not to buy super expensive tools, loss is inevitable. Personally, I feel being a prude and not helping out a coworker by lending him a tool is wrong. Unless he is being a mooch.....

Ok. Yea, they don't stay shut unless you lock it. The do make individual locking mechanisms, but it's off to the side. More money, too. I guess I don't really move my box that much to care.

I'm not sure of why the drawers are like that.

How do you justify a $80K car vs a $20K car or a $700 chain saw vs a $99 one. You buy what you want and what you can afford.

I've always wanted a Snap-on box, when I used tools the most, I couldn't afford a good box or good tools. As a matter of fact, my older boxes were laughable, yet I always managed to get projects completed. It annoyed me every time a drawer binded :mad:because I had too many tools in it, but they never ceased to open and close with a little coaxing. For years I could afford the box, but had no place to put it. As soon as construction began on my new garage, I began my research process, because even though my heart wanted a Snap-on, my brain had to give buy-off on the decision. Even though price was the least important of my criteria, I couldn't justify the cost of a new Snap-on. The larger deeper Craftsman Porfessional boxes, Matco and Mac are all nice as well, but still a lot of money. As I've gotten older and more financially stable, I tend to look more carefully at what I'm buying. Buying a quality widget usually costs me less than buying a cheap one that frustrates me and then I end replacing it with an expensive widget anyhow. I wasn't in a hurry so I waited patiently until I found the right deal on the right box. In fairly short order, I found an amazing deal on a used Snap-on box. A minor scratch or two was worth getting it for 25% of it's original cost. Now, every time I slide a fully loaded drawer open, I giggle like a little school girl and then I open and close it 2 or 3 times for pure entertainment.

Having never really seen a Snap-On box close up, how does the "Lock'n'Roll" system work? The way I understand it, you can move the little lever on each drawer to the right to keep the drawer closed when moving the box, but otherwise would just leave the lever in the open position for normal use and allow the detents to secure the drawer. Am I right?
