Garage Journal is a great web forum, and a terrific place to correspond with other people who like tools, garages, automotive equipment, cool vehicles, etc, etc. But it is NOT an appropriate place for excessively ugly language, or verbal warfare. Let's all just try to share what we have in common, and enjoy common courtesy with each other.

Happy Holidays.

Totally agreed and we generally have zero issue with that subject. But did you BAN the clown that posted that thread? Because someone that would post THAT, will only do it again and again.

It was more like carpet F-bombing.

Should he be gone, yeah probably, will he be do it again, probably. I, myself, probably would have given him a second chance and a simple, "do it again, you're gone."

Getting pissed off and ranting online can be too easy to do sometimes. It's a way of letting off steam, right or wrong, it does happen. I would have given him a temp ban and warning. Ball is in your court, do it again, the court is closed. . . . . . GOODBYE and permaban.

We have enough great members here to police ourselves most of the time. Somebody would have clued a Mod in, if he tries (tried) it again.

I'm kinda inexperienced as a Mod, frankly. So first, I figured out how to apply an infraction to the poster, and did that. Then I deleted the thread. I sent him a note, explaining why I did what I had done. Then I posted in the moderator forum about what I had done, and asked the other mods if they agreed with my actions. In hindsight, I should have "soft deleted" the post, so that the other mods could have looked at the thread, and given me input. But I didn't realize that, and deleted it completely, so that not even the mods can see it anymore.

Nevertheless, we need to keep things civil on Garage Journal. I'm not interested in participating, or reading verbal fistfights, and neither are most of our members. This is a place to share and enjoy our mutual interests. I've made quite a few friends on here, and that's good.

Meh, your actions were just fine IMO. I've been a mod (on other sites) for a good while. :lol_hitti I'd have done the same.

Congrats on the new mod-ship.

You SHOULD have locked the thread, and the first post in this thread should've been the last post in that thread.

Except that's not way GJ runs things. Nope. Drop stuff into the Memory Hole and be done with it.

But that's a verbal fistfight for another day.

Yeah, you're probably right, Porphyre. I'll get better at this stuff as I go along. But that language really was pretty ugly...the ugliest I've seen on GJ. And I thought maybe I should get it out of sight. Thanks for the input.

Sounds like you did a good job to me. On my forum I don't let the mods or anyone delete a thread. We move them all up to the moderator forum in what we call the recycle bin. I don't like to see the soft deletes in the forums. Makes it look messy but that it just my opinion.

Well gee fellas, maybe he was in the mode, ya know, sitting there writing his holiday cards to all of his friends. Choosing a few soft and caring words to send cheer to mummsies and pop pop. Writing his well wishes to his life's love while petting his dog Rinny.
I'm sure that all sit in jubilant and pensive anticipation for the festive gatherings, don't cha know? Waiting for the joy about to be received.

He maybe thought he would spread a little holiday magic in this direction, a bit of good will and joyous merriment.
Should we judge him for his disability? Turrets of the fingers?
