How many people just hang out in the garage to do nothing but maybe watch the tube? I find myself going to the garage to just sit and watch TV. The other day the wife came down, pulled up a chair, and watched TV with me. She stated that she likes to watch TV in the garage instead of the house a lot of times. :headscrat Anyone else go to the garage to do nothing, or do you go to the garage to work?

I don't have a tv in my garage but I will go out to just sit and think about what I want to accomplish either in the shop or for other things.

I know people that make their drinking/football room the garage. I don't hang out too much in mine unless I have something to do out there. If I had a better chair I many out in the garage more in the cooler months.

I'm mounting a smaller 20-24" LCD TV on one of the walls in my garage so I can hang out there. The TV will also double as my monitor for my ultra small computer so I can use it to look up stuff while I work on stuff.

I don't really just hang out in the garage much. I thought of putting a TV out there but never did it. I bought some stools and things for lounging but they never get used. I find if I'm in the garage I feel like working on something, so I'd like to keep it that way. If I'm not feeling very motivated, then I usually find myself wandering around the garage just organizing things and cleaning, which is not bad because if you don't do that it becomes a mess quickly!

I hang out in the garage all the time. Sometimes I go out there and don't have much to do. I turn on the TV, find something good and start watching. If I plan on getting comfy, I'll grab one of my Turbocoupe seats and prop my feet up on teh creeper seat.

More than once, I've nodded off out in the garage.

In fact one garage i have a lift i also have a hoop set up that i can can shoot foul shots and fool around like that when the lift isn't in use. There is a tv mounted on a shelf at the head wall so i can watch the tube while i mess around or work on the car. LOVE IT.

No TV - but a stereo, some suds, and a couple of stools make it comfy enough to just hang out. Heat and AC mean that friends show up in extreme temps. When I get to a stopping point on a project, I'll crack a beer, do a little cleaning, and make a list of stuff that I need.

Yeah, I got cable and TV in the shop. I never got around to hooking it up. I'm just fine sitting and looking at a blank TV screen. Sometimes it's nice just to "turn my mind off" and just stare at nothing.

Do I need help?:)

I think most folks here know if I am home and not asleep I am most likely out " here " . I have wifi out here and a 32" LCD mounted on a wall mount that can come out from the wall almost 2' and turn any direction I want plus a DVR so I can record anything I might want to watch . Inside the house is " the mother in law , SWMBO a 16 and 20 YO daughter I aint hangin out in there :D . SWMBO comes out here quite often in the evenings and sits at the pub table with me to watch TV .

+1
From another forum I'm on, at my last house:
I'm sitting in my garage on my 2-person Bus seat as it's the only spot available, listening to '80s music (my era), smoking a Gurkha cigar. The missus is in the house looking for eye creams while my boy is watching Nee-how Kilan (however it's spelled) while I take in a fine day of work well done. I finished installing the last bathroom fan in the house -- a pretty translucent ceramic that is barely audible and has lights...the original units made it sound like you were next to a Tomcat firing up its engines -- and installed an Oberon clutch slave!
I don't know what my new shop will deliver but I'm looking forward to it. The current house keeps me pretty damn busy...

Often my wife and I will enjoy dinner in The Hot Rod Grille, sometimes we just go there for ice cream. Other times it's to listen to the jukebox and dance. Sometimes we have friends drop by and enjoy the soda fountain and pinballs. Last week I had 34 of my buddies in the garage for a seminar on powdercoating. In a couple of weeks I will be hosting my annual hotrodder's Christmas party. It's our favorite room that is not in the house!

I find myself just sitting in my garage doing nothing all the time! I'll go out there, crack open a beer and sit in my chair for hours while listening to some tunes. Now, my garage is heated so I'll have a nice comfy place to hang out all winter long :)

I have a weekly garage night with my buddies, usually Wednesdays. I have a full size fridge in my garage, the guys bring over their own cases of beer and leave them in the fridge so they don't have to bring beer each week.

I usually do attempt to get something done, either on the garage itself (which is the primary focus, as the garage isn't condusive to other work at the moment) or on other projects. And every now and then, we end up just sitting, shooting the ****, and drinking.

Isn't that what garages were made for? :bounce:

I have a pub table (soon to be 2), fridge and 2 TV's at the moment. Everything is out of the way in case I want to work on something. If I had another stall I'd have a pool table but for right now a dart board is it.

It would only take me about 5 minutes to have the whole stall cleared out to pull a car in or spread out for a project.

+1 on that! Only tunes in my garage, I use it to get away from all that mindless **** my wife watches and think about my next wrenchin' job.

that is such an AWESOME scene Jim!! Tell me, what "agency" do you rent your girls from? Does the float girl stay late for hot dogs? (God please don't say she's your daughter, niece or grandaughter....if so I retract that joke -with sincere apologies!) It's an awesome shop. Do you bring in "experts" for the courses?

A couple times I brought my laptop into the shop to look up stuff or watch a vid while I worked, but got NOTHING done.....so it's just tunes for me. That's how I got all the project in my list (below) done!

Back to Jim's HotRod Grille - The guy in the cop's uniform, is he for real?? :)

I spend a lot of time in my garage, just ask my wife and kids. I have no TV, no radio, no PC, no frige, and no bathroom in the garage. I use the garage continuously for projects and occasionally for parking the vehicles. When the weather is nice, my projects frequently spill out onto the driveway.

I don't know about your garage situations, but I've only got about 540 sqft to work with, and I consider it high value real estate. So I try to concentate on the important stuff like work benches, tools, tool storage, supply storage, shop equipment, and lots of good lighting.

But hey, that's just me....

Hey E-Tek,

Thanks for the comments! The girls are friends who stop by for Pepsi, pinball and a bit of dancing. I always love to watch them have a good time!

The recent powdercoating seminar was conducted by Beam Blasting & Powdercoating. He brought samples of his work and answered a lot of questions. I try to host seminars for my car club that are relevant to our hobby and have professional speakers. The next seminar will cover wiring harness installation and the proper wire terminals to use.

"It's not a party if the cops don't show up"! Actually he is a "car guy" who is a Corrections Officer at a local regional jail and stopped by on his way home from work.

I have two TV’s in my garage, I turn them on but very seldom watch them, just some back ground noise to keep me company.
When we have party’s The garage is the place where all the car people go to any very seldom go to the house unless to use the bathroom.

Still need to get a better set up in the garage but here you can see the TV which swivels so I can watch from inside or outside. Want to get a bigger TV but that's a ways down the expenditure list.

I will never have a TV in the garage, I go out there to get away from the idiot box. Just picked up a vintage Sony stereo with subamp for $60, I listen to classic rock or the ball games while I'm out there and now it sounds goooood!

I have a 32" Old School TV in my garage and a nice stereo system and a PC setup. I had a stroke about 6 months ago and am still recovering from it so Im out of work on disability. I GET REAL BORED sittin in the house and will go to the garage and watch TV or crank up the stereo. Also been doing some small projects just to help with the boredum! I built a stepping stool for my granddaughter to be able to wash her hands in the sink and am going to build another one for her house!

I have neighbors who have big screens, couches and lazy boys in their garages to watch football, nascar... My garage is a workshop not a 2nd living room. Plus we already have 2 living rooms in our house!!

I have a TV, radio, laptop, and all my stuff. When I have a project going on, i'm usually out there late at night after the wife and cats have gone to sleep. I'm a night owl...

no computer
no heat

barely enough light to see.
it does have an old bookshelf stereom with a broken CD player

if i make it nicer the old lady would follow me out there..

it's a space to keep my tools, harley and off road truck.

i have a small room in the basement for my guns, reloading presses, collectables, 400watt stereo, and woodworking/house tools & stuff.

I used to think I would hang out in the garage, I used to dream about how cool it would be to hang out in the garage.

Finally I have my own garage. Now I can't figure out why I'd want to hang out in the garage when the living room is only a few steps away. I thought about putting a couch and table and chairs in the garage, along with an old TV and a stereo, but I can't figure out why I'd need two living rooms.

Oh yeah, I live by myself:)

I like eating peanuts in the shell while watching football, so it just makes for less headaches if I take it out to the garage. Plus, an HD-DVR with NFL Sunday ticket, heat, a kegerator and several speaker throughout the garage makes it ideal.

I have a small tv in the garage I keep on for background noise. But I don't have stools or comfy chairs. My garage is a working garage. Couches bars and whatnot would just take up valuable real estate I could use for tools or projects. Nothing wrong with having a garage you can lounge in, I'd love to, but I just done have the room, so I had to choose between a lounge garage or work garage. I chose work.

There'll be no TV in my new garage, a haven from the inane babble of kids TV and "Strictly Come Dancin" (you have it as dancing with the stars) that my wife is obsesssed with. Just manly music and oily smells.

This time of year, after work, I like to light a fire in my 'all nighter' wood stove, go to the house and change into my work duds, fix a scotch and go back out to the garage and check on the fire, then sit on my favorite stool and sip my scotch. The other day, while tinkering with parts and pieces from my '46 ford pickup, my ***** came around and started to fool with me...I got tired of that and got scratched in the face and lip for my efforts to stop the ***** from interrupting my concentration. It's not what you think Keith...my ***** in this case was Ghost, my shop cat. :bounce::lol_hitti:beer: I bled a lot. Moral: don't piss off your ***** while you're relaxing in your garage!

I'm getting to the point of wanting to hang out more in my garage. I have a nice stereo, and will be adding a desktop PC out there soon...Next on the needed list is a stool to sit at my bench.

It's my escape from reality and somewhere for me to turn on Pantera and do work to clear my head from the BS of working in the car business. I'm kind of wanting a mini fridge as well.

I am retired so I spend a lot of time in the (heated) garage. I have a small 20 inch TV over my treadmill and a 37 inch LCD with surround sound... which I don't even have in the house. :) I do work out there but also spend time doing nothing or entertaining friends. During the baseball season I have several friends who come over for Red Sox / Yankee games bringing chicken wings and such. I make sure I have a big batch of (hot) chili ready also.

I have drinking friends and non drinkers so my fridge has as much soda as beer in it. I love my garage and even have external speakers for my vintage stereo so I can sit outside and listen to music on a nice day. As you can tell I really love hanging out in or near my garage. :)

Its Funny...as a Kid, my brother and I used to hang out in the loft of my Parents garage.
we had strung up some old Christmas lights, layed down some old Plywood and had some old VW Bucket Seats up there.
It was Hot, but 7 people in a small 3 bedroom, 1 bath house...it was our little piece of Heaven!

My Garage today is bigger than the house I grew up in.
I do all my projects in there, and I built a second floor with a staircase going up to a nice little "Chill" area with stereo, Seating, TV, Poker Table and a Bar area.

Family hangs out with me in the garage during holidays and I relax upstairs alot.

Kinda like a small mini vacation area!

I spend the majority of my time in my basement shop. Whether I am just bs'ing on the computer or actually working on a project. It's my mancave away from my parents LOL
