I picked up the ratchet set for 49.95 a few weeks ago. The price will keep droping until they blow out of the store. I got the last ones in the store I was in.

When is the 80th Anniversary lawn tracktor going down to 24.95?

I bet the dude who came up with the 80th anniversary didn't get his bonus
A LOT of 80th anniversary products have been selling for over a year now, and only a few made it to clearance. I think that they just overstocked in anticipation of the winter holidays and got stuck with some leftover stock. In many cases the 80th anniversary edition was just a simple rebadge or special engraving, decal, or powdercoat.

I may finally try to get a ratchet set tomorrow. When I checked a week ago, there were several sets left at my local Sears. I'm debating if I should purchase a few extra sets to sell or trade. I don't need the money, but I know that a lot of people want those ratchets at that price.

Thanks Mad!

I went by the local store and they were $24.95. I have an older set, and liked this style, but was too thrift-conscious (translated=cheap :() to spend the $80 or so for them. I am considering getting another set or two to sell.

I just got back from my local Sears and picked up a couple of the little cars with the mini-pliers. They were marked $3.50 but rang up at the internet price of $2.50, so that went well. Except I just found out the pliers are made in China. Still warranty forever, but that stings a little.

Anyway, saw the ratchet set but there were locked up and marked at $99.00. It didn't occur to me until now to have them scan at the register and see what they come up as. Doh!

I'll probably go back tomorrow.

I got my set of the non-80th ratchets for $50 on ebay. I went to my store and they were all sold out of the ratchets and the plier sets. i really wanted the plier set. I ended up going ahead and buying the little c-man mini-pliers in a tin set just for kicks with some other things I was getting. $2.47 wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the heads up!

I went this evening and found the 172 pc Pro set on clearance for $57.47. Nice set with the pro ratchets and hex bit sockets.

Warranted forever, but Sears may not cover the warranty. I had a pair of Sears wirecutters and the handle snapped. Sears would not cover it even though it was bought there under the Sears name. The only thing they said they would cover was the Craftsman brand.:wtf: Then don't be selling the **** if you aren't going to cover it. I have to go out of town today, so I may just have to pop into the Sears though to see what is clearanced out. Usually they have scratch & dent boxes for sale. I don't need one, but if the price is right.....

Hasn't that always been the case though? Companion is sold cheaper at least partially because they don't have to factor in replacement into the cost. As you can tell, they're also cheaper quality. If you had your receipt, you could have just returned it.

That's actually why I said it stung a little -- they are CRAFTSMAN branded, but made in China. That was a first for me. Still the same style part number and they say gauranteed forever, and they look like any other pliers, but made in China. Maybe it's becoming more common and I just haven't noticed? I did notice the design of the spring on the pliers left a little to be desired, but these are my first 'mini' pliers, so it may be a common theme.

Even the "Professional" series mini pliers are chinese. They do seem to be pretty nice though with tight tolerances and good durability so far.

I picked up pretty much a whole set of those mini pliers and they all have the same stinky spring. The flaws seem to be from a combination of poor design and low quality construction.

The Craftsman mini pliers have been made in mainland China for at least the last ten years. Most of the full sized Craftsman pliers are made in USA by Western Forge. Some Craftsman pliers may also be made by Wilde, Klein, Knipex, Cooper/Crescent, and perhaps others.

Another thanks to MAD! Ran to Sears on my lunch break. Took some searching, but I found the 80th anniv. racthets - they were hidden in the back and locked. They had three sets, I bought one. I could kick myself, why didn't I buy the other two?!? Oh yeah, because I still ended up spending ~$150 on other sale items!

I was almost going to buy the C'man Pro mini pliers set to replace my HF set - the HFs have that crappy spring design also. Glad I didn't.

I saw the ratchets today for $49.00. Pricing seems to be all over the place with them. I bought six of these canvas tool bag thingies for .97 each. I don't what the hell I'm going to do with them (x-mas ?), but dammit, I was buying something !

Just got back from Sears. The three piece 80th anniv ratchets were on the shelf maked at 49.97. I took them up to the register and they rang up at 24.97. Needless to say I bought both sets they had left (one for my brother in law). I also got a 9 piece 3/8 drive metric set of deep sockets (the blue ones) clearanced. The sockets were marked 24.97 but they rang up for 12.97. Thanks for the heads up MAD!

Thanks for the update.

I am definitely going back today then. There are some ratchets left (hopefully!) with my name on them. Maybe some shiny blue sockets too!

I picked up an extra set of Ti blue metric deep sockets and an extra set of the thin-profile ratchets to trade. I posted about it in classified.

The Ti sockets came up a bit higher where I bought mine earlier, but it was still at a great price ($18+ tax) considering that the regular chromed sockets are over $25 normally, maybe down to $20 on sale.

I checked and both of my local stores were out of ratchets now (should have gotten them last night!), but one did have 6 sets of the blue sockets for about $27. The normal chrome ones were on sale for $22. I'm not sure the blue is really worth anything more, so I figured I'd let it go. Oh well...

I just got a confirmation that my online order shipped. I picked up a coupel plastic toolboxes (which I figure will make good storage for some power tools that no longer have their original boxes), and I picked up a couple of the 4 piece pliers sets.

We'll see when they get here!

I dropped by the local Sears around noon today and found one set of the 80th Anniversary ratchets. It had three price tags all reading $74.97. I took it up to the cashier and asked her to check the the price. She looked at the three tags, looked at me like I was stupid. Suddenly she said, "Wow! Its $24.97."
"I'll take it!" I also took a Gladiator tall gearbox that was $100 off, but those ratchets felt like the were free.

I was able to snag a ratchet set, a tin with mini pliers, a couple of tool bags, and a wrench shaped hanging thermometer today. All real cheap as they get rid of the 80th anniversary stuff. The cashier remarked that he snagged alot of the anniversary closeouts Friday.

I got the last set of ratchets they had. Everything else was gone. Its was funny. The set I picked up was haning next to a set of the regular thin ratchets. They were marked at $99. My set was marked at $49.99. They rang up for $24.97.

There is one more Sears store near buy. I might check them out tonight.

The 172 piece and 125 piece socket sets are also at hot prices ~$50 and $25 respectively, but I couldn't find one. There are too many damn ebayers in my area who have scraped all the local Sears dry. =(

Damn. I wish I had thought to have them do a price check. I went down there shortly after this thread was posted and all they had were a few cheap tool pouches and three of those ratchet sets marked at $49.99. Naturally, I friggin' passed on them.

thanks for the heads up on the clearanced stuff. I picked up the ratchet set, the plier set, the little car tin, the bottle opener and i also got some pro gloves for half price. I have hated every craftsman ratchet that I have ever used and have bashed them every chance I got to other people. I just cracked open one of the ratchets and I have to say that they are awsome inside and out. They have the 9 or so tooth floating pawl just like my proto's but they are 100 times smoother and have mutiple o ring seals. Seeing what I just saw I would pay full price for these ratchets without a secound thought. I am actually impressed with everything I bought from sears yesterday. to sears for finally making a good ratchet.

If you want to know where all the tool kits and other items went, do a search on ebay for "craftsman 80th" and you'll see who picked them all up from your local store. I wish "real people" like me who USE tools could come across deals before the vultures get them and sell them on ebay for original Sears pricing.

Like the tin with mini pliers sold for .99 with 7.05 shipping.
