I got the heavy duty set, the dial caliper and the 8" cutters. Don't forget to add the free stuff to your cart before checking out, and add your name to the monthly drawing. (The free stuff link is on the home page, near the top.)

The digital caliper does look nice and I'd also like to know others' opinions on it. I just don't think I'd use its precision enough to justify it. And with my luck I'd probably lose the battery for it and break the latch.

I'm in for the screwdriver set and cutters in addition to a few other things that I was waiting for a good excuse to order. I'm glad they came through; although, I'd like to have some of the time I spent watching their site the last day back.

Kinda sorta off topic/on topic.

How long is it gonna take before the powers that be start charging tax for all the non taxed internet buys we make? I know I get A LOT of tax free purchases.

hard to say, Calif passed a law trying to force Amazon to collect sales tax, some places like Advanced Auto Parts complied, Amazon did not roll over, made a deal putting it off for at least a year.

Fed (congress) could do something, but it isn't a popular idea among voters to pay tax on out of state purchases even though "legally" everybody is supposed to report and pay the tax on your income tax form. Fed could also nix the internet tax if for example people start buying a LOT more not just from other states but outside the US. Imagine Amexico.com .

What is that mallet set used for? a hammer?

Use it on impact tools like screwdrivers and chisels and they don't destroy the tools. You can also use them to "tap" something in place that you don't want to damage. A required tool!

Sorry about that Les; I put a better description in the Wiha specific thread.

On the Wiha homepage, if you look near the top, next to the "About us" button you'll see a Free Stuff logo, very well hidden. Click on it and you can add some freebies to your order if it's over X amount.

Same way with Lowes and the Flashlights. Said Temporarily out of stock or Limited stock . Would not give the option to buy online pick up in store.

I got that option and purchased 3 lights that I was going to pick up tomorrow AM. I say going to because I got a phone call from the store today telling me that they're out of stock. So I asked them to hold three from the next order. We'll see how that goes....

Wiha BF deals are also working for me.

Anyone have feedback on the Wiha digital caliper? Seems like a pretty good deal, 2/3 off according to them, and Swiss made. Or should I just wait for a deal on a Mitutoyo?

It's non-conductive, so it's not made of metal. I use mine to measure with, but also for layout. I would have ordered one (or the dial version) if it was stainless, so I wouldn't screw it up scribing lines in metal.

I got the mallet & side cutters. Great deals.
I have some of their precision screwdrivers that I use for electronics, and if the rest of their tools are that nice I'll be thrilled. I have some screwdrivers on the way, too.

I used to have a Skeletool, a bigger version of the Freestyle, and the pliers were junk. I assume they'll be worse on the Freestyle.

Bought some Wiha tools. Dunno why. Lol. Never had any though, hope they are decent.

Tried ordering the SK ratchets from Grainger. I'm betting that gets cancelled by them once they catch that huge error.

Wonder how this husky one compares to the famous harbor freight 13 drawer that isn't much more (after normal coupon)?

That one has structural problems. It's just 2 26" units tacked together in the middle. Kind of flexy, even when unloaded, not a very good feeling to the action of the drawers. I was pretty disappointed when I inspected it in store. Between that one and the 13-drawer from HF, HF without ANY hesitation.

Someone needs to go to the store and check it out then. The older version didn't have a wide drawer. It's possible they fixed some of its flaws.

To make it competitive with the HF box, they would have had to thicken up the steel a lot, put way better slides on it, and add more reinforcing to the skeleton to make it more stable.
