I can get a Snap on ss series tool box that is a 56" similar to the one in this pic snap on box

or should I go for a 72" Montezuma for the same price?
Montezuma box

I get a 50% discount from snap on... but that is the biggest box they offer with a discount.... or I could get a bigger monty for the same price, maybe a bit cheaper even.

Is the quality of the monty good? Ive read good reviews on this site but they all seem to be when the box was new. they do have 5 year warrenty

I dont like the snap on latch systems they feel cheesy but it is snap on so it cant be junk right? Id like a 72" but I can always add on if 56 becomes to small.

What one would you pick?

I would stick with a truck brand where you get the discount. Starting out, a 56ish wide box is going to last long time before it is filled. You will probably change jobs once or twice until you find a place you like. In my opion a 56" box is about the biggest box that can be kinda easy to move. A SO, Matco or Mac have a lifetime warranty and when it comes time to step up to a larger box, will hold better resale.

The pic you have is a krl master series. The new "ss" box your referring to is the new classic 78 with 2 full length drawers part no. kra2422. I have the 2422 and its plenty of box for me to grow into and payments are fairly cheap. I wasnt a fan of the lock n roll drawers at first but if your not moving the box around you can take the out. Give it about a day or two and you wont even notice them. If you have the cash Id definitely do the hf box and spend the rest on tools. But if your situation requires financing then definitely get the SO box they hold their value. I talked to my dealer the other day about mine and he said if i wanted to step up he would give me what i paid for mine. Heres a pic of my box for reference.

I have a HF 41 pretty much stuffed with good quality tools. Ive been dreaming of an American made tool box for years but they cost so damn much. Im going to school for diesel now (was a MC tech for 6 years). Im approved for like 6800$ snap on card and I figured I could get the box and some of the expensive air tools at half off.

I should look into matco, I personally like there tool boxes better. It would be sweet if I could get the same student discount through them... Ive heard some say they offer it but I asked my matco truck guy and he didnt know of it.

Personally I would get the s/o box. The matco boxes are nice but I'm not so sure on resale or trade in. I ve not heard of one person who's bought a so box who isn't happy with it. I've got a krl1022 and I love it. Was my first big box from the upgrade 2 42inchs hf cabinets.get the s/o and be done for the discount. I wish I could have.

Yeah Im pretty happy with it. I had considered a matco box but for the price range I had in mind (4K) matco didnt have a box with a second full length drawer. Snap on didnt either until my dealer told me about the 2422 they were releasing. Once I heard that SO had a box in the color/configuration I wanted in my range it took me all of about 5 minutes to tell my dealer to print the paperwork. A guy on my team at work had a classic 78 before he bought his krl1023 and he said he got what he paid for it when he traded it in.
