This is a picture of my "hobby" workbench where I build wood puzzles, clean my handguns, etc. My other two workbenches are in my shop out back so I'll have to get a pic of them later.

This workshop is in fact part of the house so I have central heat and air and a door which leads outside and to my other shop.

Oh and this little one I put together a couple months ago.
-rienforced corners
-added sleeves/leveling bolts for the front two corners and fixed casters on the back two so you just pick up the front to move it.
-added top- free from work
- added little vise (you can barely see it in the pic)

This one I finished last year.



This one I just built last weekend. I'll eventually paint the frame black and finish the top to match the other one. I kept the casters on the tool boxes and built the bench to come apart easy so that I could move it if ever needed. (It separates the one car side from the two car side.)

Simple workbench for assemby and light repair

I don't do metal work or heavy fabrication, and so my shop and workbench are set up for assembly, servicing, and light repair. The workbench to the left is an off-the-shelf unit and has an aluminum top.



This pales in comparison to the really serious benches shown in this thread. I do have a sturdy, wood workbench that I built about 20 years ago. It is in a shed in the yard, and that that is where I do heavy filing, cutting, pounding. I will take a photo of it to show you.

Just moved to our new place a month ago. The garage is a 3 stall and it is pretty bare. No bench no shelving. I need to have a workbench to work on stuff and to put tools and stuff up away from the kiddos. Finally, I got the chance to build a workbench over the Thanksgiving break. I am thankful to the previous owner of our place who left me a ton of lumber of which I used to build this fine workbench. It's nothing special. It's big, it's tall, it's sturdy, and it only took 3 or so hours two throw together. I used all 2x6 lumber except for the legs. I need to do some sanding and I think I will paint it up a little bit. I am planning to lay a thin carpet on top or get a rubber mat as I work on electronics occasionally. Dimensions are: 11'Lx27"Dx42"H.

Work in progress. It was 12' long but I cut off the overhang on one end so I could anchor the bench to the wall. It doesn't need to be movable and one of the boards was warped making it goofy. Once anchor to the wall, all was good.

This is the finished product anchored to the wall. I am extremely happy to have a workbench in the garage. Now I need to purchase some accessories to dress it up a little bit and to get some cabinets. Christmas is almost here and Santa has my list. I have been good this year and I am hoping he comes through for me!

Homemade Bench

Here is the workbench I made 30 years ago. It is very basic, but it has worked well for me. It is now in a shed, where I tend to do my filing, cutting, and so forth.

Nice shed you have there andy, oh and it´s impossible to not like your "indoor" shop. THAT shop is a DREAM!!!

Great bench, AWSOME WILTON VISE. Looking for a used one just like that for my shop.

Nothing fancy, just a maple top (Boos) on some steel legs. Not really done with it (as the vice isn't even mounted). A simple shelf below, reinforced with 2x3's.

Just purchased the two Craftsman roller cabinets. Got a killer deal on them. The local Sears Hardware store had them marked as clearance/used (one was open, the other still in box). Got them for $280/each (often on sale for $350-370). Originally, I figured I would put one down in the basement wood shop...but I'm liking how they look in the garage.

just finished this one I got the top for free a seven foot piece of corian counter top and the metal cabinets i built into it were free as well I just built the rest myself.

PECVVD2, I bought that Wilton vice new in about 1980! I remember the hardware I ordered it from delivered one that was slightly damaged, so I rejected it. They came back the day after to deliver this one, which was very nice. I bet there are a lot of new old stock Wiltons in hardwares in downtown Manila. And the hardwares still deliver!

Well aren´t you a little "diplomatic" calling your "über shop" a "white box with red cabinets"!

That "box" is THE dream garage/shop for me (it could well be a shop of any high-end restoration business including Ferrari´s Classiche Department or Corse Clienti)!

Thanks, Scuderia. Judging from the name and those references, you must be a Ferrari fan. If it is still there, you must visit the Matsuda private Ferrari collection in Japan. He had two modern buildings in a lovely mountain setting, one for road cars and the other for racing cars. My apologies for the digression; now back to workbenches.

Robot Stands

Here is my newest bench. It is made out of 2 old industrial robot stands. each one weighs 525 lbs.
On top I have a Wilton 1755

The word is often used, but "awesome" applies to that bench. It looks like a bench on steroids; it seems a very serious bench. I had never seen those robot stands. Question: why did you put the vise on an extension? I am sure your set-up is quite sturdy, but wouldn't a vise sitting directly on the bench be stronger?

Sweet! I need to find a way to work that into one of my benches. How do you have the receiver tube attached to the bench?

thanks for the compliments guys.
I like my vice as close to the edge of a bench as possible. Also, with the way i mounted the legs, i did not want them to get in the way of vertical work pieces clamped in the vice. With my last bench, If i put a piece of work vertically, and it extended down past the bench, it would hit the bench. As far as strength, The vise will break before the bench fails. The extension on the bench is solid 2" thick steel. All mounting bolts are LE (USA made ) grade 8. The 4 vice mounting bolts are 5/8" diameter. The side extension is held on with three 1/2" bolts. All bolts are threaded deep in the steel block.

FREE Oak Cabinets, with 3 pieces of 3/4" plywood tops, gone over with several sanded coats of polyurethane. I have a 6' foot bench with a metal top in there now, just not in the picture.
