I've used seafoam products before and found them to be good. Whenever I have a problem loosening something, I believe in Kroil. It seems to always be the best to get down into the seized connection and allow me to loosen it up. I think products like PB Blaster and probably the Seafoam one are kind of multipurpose products that do more than just creep into the connection.

I use it as a intake cleaner, i saw friend of mine use it. Like the regular seafoam it makes the car smoke like crazy, if you don't know what im talking about watch this <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P-4EfjUU5o4&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P-4EfjUU5o4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

thats the regular seafoam the deepcreep has the same effect but not as much. I was not amazed of him using it, it was when he took his manifold off, and saw how clean it was. You will notice a better throttle response. Becareful that your neighbor might call the fire department.....

Article: “Testing Penetrating oils”
This reports a test of penetrating oils where they measured
the force required to loosen rusty test devices. The
details reported here were validated by the original
article author. He also added some details on the methods.
You must buy the issue if you want to see how they did the
test. The back issue is available for purchase.
The table below extracts the results table The lower the
number of pounds the better. Interesting that a simple mix
of acetone and power steering fluid (PSF) works the best!

Penetrating oil - Average load -Price per fluid ounce
None ...............516 pounds -- 0
WD-40 ..............238 pounds --$0.25
PB Blaster..........214 pounds --$0.35
Liquid Wrench ......127 pounds --$0.21
Kano Kroil .........106 pounds --$0.75
PSF-Acetone mix ....53 pounds ---$0.10 (50/50 mix)

Note from original article author:
1) These are loads required to free the test piece after
8 hours of immersion in penetrating oil. This is
probably not representative of a quick squirt just
before a wrench is applied.
2) The original article states ATF was used in the DIY
mix. It was actually PSF.

Got me thinking of mixing some PSF and acetone and putting it in a spray bottle....

Isn't PSF pretty much the same as ATF ... ?

What PSF is depends on the car, some its ATF, some its something else, but almost never is it called out as PSF.

Acetone and ATF is fairly aggressive, non car surface friendly mix, not something to spray around or allow to drip on the wrong stuff. I don't think I would spray it at all, maybe a bottle and dropper, mix it at time of use.

So, would the ATF be Type F, Mercon/Dexron, or something else?

Im not in anyway associated to the video, but just posting it. If you, youtube seafoam you will see alot of videos, i have used seafoam in my car, half sucked down a vacuum hose, and the other half in the tank. Deep creep is seafoam with some added chemicals. But i only use deepcreep to clean my intake......

I've seen that same article before. In the version I saw, they came to the conclusion that Liquid Wrench (which was already my favorite) was the most cost effective penitrating oil on the market. Kroil is like impossible to find locally, at least for me... that and it is expensive. I have had no luck with ATF and I'm not going to try mixing it, but if that mix works it is for sure the cheapest and most effective.

Personally, I've tried a lot of penetrating oils, and so far JB 80 works the best for me. Ever since I was a kid, that is what my father and grandfather used, and I've tried others but nothing seems to work quite as good. The only other stuff that came close was another brand that was in an orange can that my uncle gave to us a few years ago when he worked for Monsanto. They were switching brands and giving away the last few cases to the employees. I don't remember the brand though :(

So what is the ratio of power-steering fluid to acetone?

Also, have you guys had good success for short term applications (most of the time I can't wait 8 hours).

Thanks

Tim

i always knew that liquid wrench was better than wd-40, i will reach for liquid wrench over WD anytime. I would like to try kroil, but have not found a store that carries it.

Thanks Firetrucks,
I ordered a couple cans because I haven't found any locally yet. I had a can from a aircraft mechanic job I had, but neither the job nor the can, lasted long enough.
