I was just curious, how much do you guys carry on your Snap On account balance. I don't like mine getting above 300 bucks, and I prefer to pay it down before I buy anything else. I tell my Snap On guy this, and he says he doesn't care. The other day he told me to take the 18v cordless impact, and I told him it was too much, I didnt want my balance to be that high, and he says he doesnt care. What's it like with you're dealer?

Personally mine is $0 but I have been tempted to give a truck account a go when certain specials are running. From what I hear, it varys quite a bit. I heard one guy say that he liked to keep his under $500 but the next guy from the same shop apparently lets it run up to a couple thousand. All depends on how comfortable the buyer is with owing the driver money and how much credit the driver will extend.

I'll carry a balance for a impulse buy for a week or 2, but then I pay it off. Mine would probably like a constant payment from me, but I don't like feeling the black cloud of debt over my head.

I run between 600 and 1300. I make payments of 100 or 125 weekly. Im not sure why some are so against a truck account. I get not liking debt, but if you keep it reasonable a truck account is a good thing. It is the american way, make money using someone elses money. Same reason snapon extends credit to reps. They get the chance to sell some to recoup atleast some of their costs before they have to pay for it.

Truck acct is right at 500 and EC acct is 3900 but thats for my box. I pay 100 a week unless I have a crazy good week in which case I pay more. I figure he helps me be productive so when I profit I like to give back.

Our driver is pretty cool. I asked today about getting a hutch for my box at the beginning of the year with my tax return and he told me if I wanted it he would go ahead and order it and I could pay him when it got here.

I broke down last week and got the big 1/2" ratchet and the metric Sockets, on my truck account. So under three hundred. However I normally pay cash.

mine is a thousand, but i have very low expenses (yet i still pay double on my student loans) and such..

so the minimum is 100 a week and my balance is at 1k. but i um paid off a $1300 balance in 2 weeks.

I paid mine off last Tuesday and manged not to get anything on the truck yesterday. I generally only buy stuff if I absolutely need it and know I will use it frequently. Snap-On prices are too high to try something out on a whim and find out that the tool sits on your box and does not make you money. I buy my air tools from other places and that helps too. I ussually go on the truck knowing what I'm going to buy and try to budget paying at least half the cost that week and the other half next week.

He almost got me on a 3/8 deep socket set promo this week though. The set was $157ish and you got a "free" locking flex head ratchet with comfort handle.

I owe around $7900 on EC (That's the total after all interest, and I do plan on paying it off early), since I just bought a new tool box last month, and I owe $600 on my truck account, since I'm addicted to buying tools, and still have a lot I need. I usually pay $1-200 a week.

Same for me. I don't really have rules for myself... if I see something I want or think I need.... I'll buy it (or put it on the list). Usually if it's more than $3-400 I'll pay more than half and pay the rest the next week.

I've also slowed down to buying 1-2 things per week only, that helps.

Nothin to Snap On.

Matco is $200 on the truck right now, $1200 to Matco hq.

My dealer is really flexible though. He doesn't enforce the minimum payment for a truck account just as long as I slide him a little bit each week. This works out better for both of us because I actually feel more comfortable raising my balance if I know I won't owe the $100 minimum each week.

considering that the ratchet alone is about $130, that sounds like a great deal!

I put $3k of my 1022 on SO Credit, paid that off, bounced my locker off it, ~$1600, paid that off. I vary from $0-500 on the truck. My SO guys love me, I'm the local VW/Audi "WTF tool takes this off" guy for him, and I pay my GD bill EVERY WEEK. EVERY WEEK....

When I was grossing $$$$$ in CT, I'd pay $2-300 a week easy when I was acquiring a lot of the stuff I needed early on. My old SO guy liked me too, paid him EVERY WEEK without fail & I was smart, if it wasn't on promo, I typically didn't buy it, If I only needed one odd ball bit, I'd only buy that one size instead of a $500 rail of things I wouldn't use. He'd look out for me, let me in on promos coming up, and specials. Don't buy that yet, wait 2 weeks etc.

Zero, usually pay cash. I did run a balance a few times, I'd get on the truck and he'd have a deal I "had to have", so I would give him the cash I had in pocket, and pay the rest the next week. I didn't work in a shop, was a road tech, so I didn't see him weekly and didn't want to owe someone I wasn't going to see.

Nice thing about a truck account is the zero interest. Some dealers will automatically put you on the corporate account if over 5 grand to protect them. But if you pay something weekly or pay off more than the min. on the corporate no problem. In the auto industry you can be sure most guys have close to 50k invested or more especially shop owners who turn a wrench for a living. This year I had to buy tools and equipment to stay up to date. My retired tools come home that are well used or obsolete. Right now sitting at 4800 smackaroonies on the corp acct. and zero on the truck. Any balance traditionally gets paid off before year's end.

After my Strap-On Guy became extremely upset with me because I didn't buy a tool box from him it went to $0 and has stayed there.

Back in the 80s when I was amassing my tool collection I would carry between $200 and $1500 on a running account. I did alot of sidework (often earning more on the weekend than all week at the job) and would fork over those earnings every week. It never got of hand and had everything I could possibly want.
