I love the interior facade. That turned out nice. I've been thinking on something similar for the office in my shop.

Ok, I did not see it asked or mentioned but how tall are you? I ask because of those receptacles mounted up high on the walls. What is the reason?

I really like your place. I had originally planned on building my home in this manor, basically building a house inside of a metal building leaving some of the are open as a shop.

Thanks guys! Gb they say you can never have enough outluts so I figured why not at the 10' level. OK those are on a seperate breaker and are going to be for neon lights etc around the top. I think why it's taken so long to build this is I am trying to think of everything I will ever need for future use. Starting to all come together now. Agian thanks for all the comments.

Nighttrain,

Fantastic work, the details sure set your build apart. I can’t wait to see what project come out of that shop in the future.

This build is my inspiration(Hope you don't mind) for my office / bathroom in my shop. I have it framed up and will start my new thread soon.

Thanks guys! mws444 yours is quickly blowing mine out of the water. How are you going to cover the walls?

Hey man you were the first one to raise the bar.

The main shop is going to be smooth drywall. Still trying to figure out the walls of the cavern.

Hey Nighttrain, just got a call from my sister she is at her father in laws ranch in Brady pretty close to Dripping Springs . Her crazy dog decided to tangle with a porcupine, she had to drive over to San Angelo for a vet on a Sat. night. I guess about every dog out there has to do that at least once.

Love your Shop. Your detailing is really outstanding enjoyed watching it come togeather although I just found this link tonight. I have to one up you in one way due to your $35 permit bragging. :) Here in Amish country [Holmes County Ohio] We have building codes no permits. I know thats not always a good thing but with Amish contractors they mostly build it better anyway. Hope mine turns out as well as yours did http://rangershop.blogspot.com/

That shop is awesome! And the office and Casita is a really cool way of doing the interior space.

Thanks FltEng. It's been a bit slow here. About four weeks ago I pulled my back out putting up some cedar trim. Was on the floor for about two weeks. Was going to do the cabinets this weekend but rain and colder weather here has me feeling a bit down. I hope to have some updated pictures in a week or so.

Sorry to hear you are down Nighttrain, hope you get back up to snuff quickly!
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, going on ten years now, so I know the pain well. I have been at about 50% for the last week with this crazy weather. Now they are saying snow tomorrow night I guess next week will be a tough one for both of us.
Hang in there Buddy!

Thanks MMS and Tinbender. Back is about 90% better but have to really think every time I bend. I did get out to the shop last night and swept the floor for a bit. That made me feel better. Hope to be cutting wood by Wednesday for the cabinets.

Hi nightrain, I will ask again, do You have any eve vents, or ridge vent, or?....I have a Mueller, 1/12 pitch 30 x 40 with spray foam insulation. The heat buildup near the ceiling is bad in the summer. I run a swamp cooler, as our humidity here is low. Just wondered how You are exhausting that summer heat? your build looks great!

Sorry for not answering that before. No vents at all on the top. I have the 14'x12' door on the East side a 7'X6' on the South side and a man door on the West end. This way a get a really good breeze from the SE all summer. This gets me real good air flow. I installed the three ceiling fans this summer and they really move the air. I am anxious ti see how they move warm air for me this winter. Up in the logt I can feel the heat a bit but with that big front door it seems to get the heat out. I enjoy looking at all your bikes in your post.

Thank You, Sir. I have a ceiling fan and the swamp cooler, but this past summer, it got too warm in the shop. I have one oh door and two walk doors, and several windows, but I keep the street side doors closed due to some scuzzy neighbors/rent houses. I dont want them eyeballin My babies.
I will check with Meuller to see what venting options I have.

I am jealous. I love the hard plumed dust collection system. But more than anything I like the inside facade. I have always wanted to do one in my basement and/or garage. But never had the room to do it.

Awesome garage. I love the office space and the facade you put up to front the office. Sure miss TX. I spent a couple years in grad school at UT in the early 90's. Nothing better than a nice ride on the bike out into the Hill Country. Looks like you have a bike for every type of riding a guy needs to do.

I hear ya brother. Last week I slipped on some ice on the driveway (we have a decent slope on the driveway) and fell straight onto my back. Had to crawl back to the house. Thank the Lord I think things were only strained but I learned my lesson big time. Don't think I'd be getting away scot-free like that again if it was 20 years from now.

Thanks guys, I had my last PT appointment this morning and am feeling 99.9% back to normal. I am off work today so out to the shop to clean up and get going on the cabinets. I am going camping with my boys this weekend so today is about all I have this week. I have 5 days off over Christmas so I want the cabinets done.

Wow. What a place you have built!!! I enjoyed reading your posts about the construction.

I thought you might want to check out www.garagepals.com for some ideas on outfitting your garage with cabinets or storage accessories.

Also, the photos of your Toy Hauler made me think that maybe you would like checking out www.pitproduts.com. They have a customer showplace that shows some photos of Toy Haulers outfitted with storage cabinets and ramps.

Just an idea.

You younger guys, be careful with your backs, I pushed my luck as a young man and wound up paying for it later in life with reconstructive surgery including but not limited to two artificial disks...I have a card to get through the metal detectors at the airport because I have so much new parts back there, LOL.

Your shop is sweet, if we are able to put together a move out of California in the next couple of years I have plans laid out already to do something very similar...false front style buildings inside with storage on top upstairs, a pool table and such in the mancave downstairs and another false front clean room for engine assembly.
I don't get to hang around in here much these days but it is good to see the imaginations are all working well!

Time for some updates. I finished up the window sills in the office and main shop. I had some cherry and maple boards I had been holding onto. The wife was not happy to see that I have better window sills in the garage than in the house.

I also was able to hoist up the dust collecter to the ceiling. I still need to run an outlet up there. It has a remote for the on/off and power settings. I placed it so I can change the filter from the loft without the use of a ladder.

DSC03047.jpg

Yes those lights are bright! I am very happy with them.

Well this last week I was able to start on the lower cabinets. Been waiting a while to do these. Here are the plans.

West wall for the woodshop. With lower cabinet for chopsaw.

South wall right side, higher section for a sit down work area.

DSC03052.jpg

South wall left side. This is a mirror image. A 6' roll up door between the two.

DSC03051.jpg

Here are the materials, 24 sheets of 3/4 cabinet grade plywood and some 2x4"s

Finished up the upper cedar trim.

DSC03048.jpg

cabinet construction: 2x4 base.

DSC03054.jpg

ripping the panels down to a 23" panel for the base. The 25" panel will be for the tops.

DSC03055.jpg

Dado on the bottom. I used a stacked dado blade on the table saw for the side panels.

DSC03056.jpg

Here on this old table I had to put down a couple of 2x4 to make a level base to build these sections of cabinets on. Each main section will consist of the 6' sections. Once glued up I will level the 2x4 base on the floor and attach these 6' section to them and the wall then add the tops.

DSC03057.jpg

I used the Kreg pocket hole gadget i just bought.

DSC03058.jpg

DSC03059.jpg

So this is the start of the lower cabinets. Took a while to get all the wood cut and dadoed but I should start gluing the sections up tomorrow. Hope to have most done over Cristmas.

Texas of course!
I'm selling my house and planning to rebuild again. Been thinking of making my garage, then I see these garages that are bigger than my current house. Sheesh!
