Did HF finally change the color of their boxes to gloss red ? My friend went to the local one the other day and he said all the tool boxes were glossy red. Only the machinist box wasnt.

Yes. My dad bought a 5 drawer roll around cart over a year ago for the shop that had the wrinkle finish red powder coating on it. We went and got one for me for the shop and it shiny smooth red. It's the exact same cart other than the paint. The finish on my dads is more durable than mine.

The carts and the 56" box have been the gloss red for quite some time now. This rumor keeps getting spread that all of the boxes are the gloss red, though every 41" box I've seen when this rumor goes around is still the pinkish, crinkle powder coat.

I just got the 5 drawer service cart and its smooth red finish. The HF I go to has the 56" box in the smooth red finish. But still has the 41" box and all cabinets and accessories in the wrinkle finish. I think I am going to wait until the smooth red finish comes in on everything before I buy the 41" roller/top/side cabinets.

I *think* someone posted once here showing their 41" box in the gloss red finish...I may be wrong though.

I personally prefer the crinkle finish.

I don't mind either one. I like the crinkle finish and I wont have a problem of smearing grease all over it. But if Im getting multiple boxes and I already have the service cart, Id like everything to be somewhat similar if im able to pick and choose.

The box and thread I'm thinking of wasn't an after-market paint job. It was like that when picked up from the store. There was then a little debate over the stickers on the box being able to identify if the box was either gloss red or crinkle red. I might be mistaken, but I'll try to find that thread today!

I personally like the wrinkle finish of the HF Boxes. I would like to find a wrinkle finish 5 Drawer Cart. Very interested in part # if you have the info...

I've had my 41" for about 1.5 years. Gloss read would look FAR better, IMO.

Of course, I got mine when you could still use coupons on them, so I only paid $280 + tax. So it was still a pretty good deal.

Could you post a pic of it?

Maroon wrinkle coat finish and gloss red boxes have the same part #'s, it just a matter of when it was made as to which it is.

For those of you who like the crinkle finsih, you've obviously have never worked in a body shop ofrdusty environment.

I;ve got a maroon crinkle coat HF 5 dwr cart in my garage that when bought new was sanded to smooth to get rid of the crinkle and then sprayed with 2 coats of clear to keep the dust in the cracks at bay. Looks ****.

Good thing access to free Dupont clear coat and 3 spray booths was at hand. :)

Now sits empty looking for a cause in the garage but my guess is the gloss red will be the full HF line color for those boxes that offer it by the end of 2012.

Pic of the respray below and box is about 5 years old.
Never mind the Mac logo to cover the holes. A shop ****** pried off the US General logo and finding a repalcement is next to impossible as I still need adn want one.

First post here. Been lurking for awhile now, and have picked up lots of great tips for garage redo #2.

Anyway, does anyone know how the HF gloss red compares to the Sears red? I'm still debating what to get to replace my old Craftsman 26" box, and was thinking about the HF 44" (since it's such a great deal and is a quality piece), together with one or more of the Craftsman intermediate boxes to make up the base for a workbench. The current HF crinkle red obviously isn't close, but if the gross red is then it would defintely be worth waiting for (if indeed that's what HF is planning to do).
