Real Snap On or Fraud??

Local Craigs List has a "Snap On" rolling chest for sale. I spoke with the owner and he said he got two from a friend as payment for a debt. When I asked for SO part number so I could research on SO site...he said it does not have any markings and he is not sure it is a SO.

I am guessing it has had the Snap On label added and it is another brand?? I have attached a picture...not the best. Price ar $1300 seems reasonable...which may be another hint.

He has a bleue one and an orange one.

Please take a look and give me your opinions. Thanks...Tom R

Looks like at MATCO box that someone has put the SO label on.
If no SO part number branded somewhere; this is fraud for sure.

It looks similar to Nissan_Crawlers International. It has the same two lock cylinders , black plastic wheel locks ,same handle location ,same number of drawers, and same black pull handle. It is also 56" wide.

You guys are great:beer: I e-mailed owner the picture of the International said he should drop the SO reference on Craigs list.

I asked him what he wants for this non-SO box...we shall see...Thanks...Tom R

What an unscrupulous way to make a few extra bucks. Not saying that this guy is a fraud, but if someone wanted to, you could buy a couple of these, Slap a Snap on sticker on it. Mark it up by 50% and have a story ready if confronted about it being a real Snap on box so that you can have plausible deniability. One way or another, someone will fall for it.

Why do you think those Snap on and Mac toolbox emblems sell so well on Ebay?
I have seen carts, chests, and rollaways mislabeled from Chinese brands to a tool truck brand more than once. The double sided tape usually is the first giveaway. It's buyer beware everywhere. You really need to do your homework before purchasing any major item these days.
Snap on chests and rollaways always have the model number embossed on them usually on the back unless they're really, really old.

I would guess that many innocent buyers would be sucked in by this type of scam...particularly since the international is a pretty good product...Thanks...Tom R

About four decades ago, I worked with a guy who would buy Herbrand boxes, then apply the Snappy badges.

Trouble is, they WERE, actually, the same box made by the same vendor to both tool companies.

My own Snap-On boxes are more than 30 years old, but they all have their part numbers - along with, IIRC, another line or two - stamped in one of the lower corners at the rear of the box.

I would give you more info, but my box is "built in" since I built all sorts of shelving around it. I need to use a floor jack to move it out.

I had a buddy who bought a used box off the back of a snap on truck. Thought he was getting a deal on a snap on box, till I was there to show him that simple badging doesn't make it a Snap-On box.

The funny part is that if Snap-on slaps a cheap peel and stick "Blue Point " decal on a Chinese roll cart, they can get two or three times the value that the same one can be purchased elsewhere. Of course this goes for most of their Blue Point line.

I actually felt bad for the guy.....he still got a deal IMO, just not the 'smoking' deal he thought he was getting.....I think he paid $400 for a Craftsman box that sells new for around $1000
